Senior al-Qaida Member Arrested
Abu Ayyoub al-Masri- Gives you the craaazy eye!
The US military says a senior al-Qaida terrorist is in custody in Iraq.
Major General William Caldwell says the man led assassination, kidnapping and bombmaking cells in Baghdad. He also is a personal associate of the new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq.
The man was arrested on Tuesday. His identity was not released. Caldwell says he also played a key role in al-Qaida's activities in Fallujah before it was attacked by US troops in late 2004.
Abu Ayyoub al-Masri took over al-Qaida in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in an American airstrike in June.
Ok so it's not the main man in Iraq but we are getting close to him.
In the meantime, an Algerian group pledges allegiance to Al Quaida:
Abd al-Malek Droudkel, known as Abu Musab Abdel-Wadoud, leader of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), also urged other Islamist groups around the world to join forces to defeat the US.
"After nearly a year of contacts, we are happy to announce to the Muslin nation and our Muslim brothers the good news ... the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat in Algeria has joined al-Qaeda organisation," Droudkel said in a statement, dated September 13, posted on GSPC website.
"After consultations, we decided to announce allegiance to Shaikh Osama bin Laden, and continue our jihad [holy war] in Algeria under his leadership."
Oh the joy!
P.S. The Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat is so important that Wikipedia doesn't even know who it is!
