A World without Israel
NUJ,
Spare a thought for Alan...We are encouraging all members to pause and think of Alan for one minute at 14.15 BST – the time that Alan's parents will release 100 balloons in their home village in Scotland.
At the same time, Alan's colleagues across the BBC will show their support for him, his friends and his family. We are urging all NUJ members to join with them in marking this event.
The NUJ will also deliver letters to the new Palestinian Prime Minister as well as to the UK Foreign Secretary urging them to redouble their efforts to secure Alan's release and to the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate thanking them for their support and urging them to help keep Alan's case high on the political agenda.
Well, this is ironic. About 5 weeks after Alan was abducted in Gaza, the National Union of Journalists voted to boycott Israel, probably hoping that such an action would trigger Alan's release from grateful Palestinian terrorists. Appeasement didn't seem to work. Didn't work back in 1939 either.
