US Energy Secretary Cannot Object To Venezuela Being Charitable ...
Another example of how various branches of the US government act loopy:
From ElUniversal:
"...I cannot object to Venezuela being charitable," the US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman told Reuters when asked about the reply his office is to give to a controversial discounted heating oil distribution program Citgo Petroleum Corporation -the US refining branch of Venezuelan state oil giant Pdvsa- has been implementing in the United States since last year, as instructed by President Hugo ChávezSamuel Bodman is a Bush appointee.
Bodman said in Washington that the US Energy Department would not refuse the sales of discounted heating oil in winter, even if they come from Citgo. For many US citizens, Citgo is the arm implementing the policies of Chávez -who openly opposes his US counterpart George W. Bush ...(btw, the article also talks about how 147 out of the 151 indigineous Alaskan tribes will accept Hugo's largess -- FB)
And, once again, Chavez proves to himself and the rest of the world that Americans will lick his boots for oil.
You know -- I do not understand why the US government cannot subsidize heating oil from other sources. While oil is fungible, we do not have to use the stuff that has Hugo's name all over it -- and we shouldn't.

UPDATE: Looks like the vote to fill the non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council may come as early as next week -- but Chile may be having some reservations. Good background here.
If Venezuela does get elected to the Security Council, Hugo might decide to occupy the seat personally. Now that would be a swell time.
