Time Magazine: Downgrading the terror threat

Once again folks, we’re witnessing either appeasement, capitulation, or downgrading of the terror threat from the Left. Today’s perpetrator: Time Magazine and Joe Klein.
“But George W. Bush has demonstrated only an intermittent relationship with reality about Iraq. He has trotted out the same old ironclad abstractions—‘Our enemies will stop at nothing ...’ and ‘Freedom is God's gift to man’--for four years. Recently, in his desperation, starting with his speech at the Naval War College on June 28, he has been telling an outright lie, and he repeated it now, awkwardly, in Cleveland: ‘The same people that attacked us on September the 11th is the crowd that is now bombing people, killing innocent men, women and children, many of whom are Muslims, trying to stop the advance of a system based upon liberty.’”
Notice the prose Klein incorporates in his blatant, aggrandized writing style:
--“ironclad abstractions”
--“outright lie”
--“awkwardly”
Klein states, unequivocally, that this statement isn’t true, but rather the group conducting the most devastating harm is Al-Qaeda in Iraq, founded by the late Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi. It’s as if, in Klein’s head, the Al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan is a completely different entity than the group constituted in Iraq. Does he weigh the fact that both groups are motivated by their mutual hatred for the “Great Satan” and adhere to the word of Osama bin Laden?
Furthermore, note the underlying message in this statement: “the group doing the most spectacular bombings in Iraq was named al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia by its founder, Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi, now deceased, in an attempt to aggrandize his reputation in jihadi-world.”
I get the sense from Klein’s statement that the Iraqi-based terrorist organization wages “freedom fights” under a completely different ideological banner: the group in Pakistan and Afghanistan had certain grudges to bear against the United States, while the group in Iraqi was formed because of the American occupying force.
Once again, the Left strikes again.
With those statements, they add credibility to the terrorist “cause celebre.” They legitimize it in the Islamist’s eyes.
It would seem that he and the anti-war, anti-Bush crowd collectively roll their eyes when Bush utters statements regarding this REAL fight we’re currently waging. The primary issue here is their blatant denial that we are fighting terrorism, or that terrorism even exists. And if it does, in their eyes, who is the true enemy?
The United States
“Bush's lie, which assumes a lack of knowledge on the part of the American people, was compounded by an outrageous bit of spin: ‘We just started [the surge],’ the President said. General David Petraeus "got all the troops there a couple of weeks ago." In fact, Operation Fardh al-Qanoon, the military effort to secure Baghdad, has been going on since February.”
Actually, from reports I read, Joe, the troops arrived in the spring. They couldn’t immediately begin operations; a certain time period was required to ramp up, train, prepare, and configure forces. They just couldn’t immediately “pop into” place. Moreover, the use of the word September has not changed since the surge began. The reason why July is being uttered is because Al Qaeda realizes that this country is at a crossroads: they know if they can somehow ratchet up the violence, we will withdraw. Thus, the Left sees this renewed violence and hopes for the worst: that we will be defeated and bring the troops home.
Remember, in the immortal words of Democrat Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader from Nevada: “I believe ... that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week.” Socialize this! Personalize this! Radicalize this!
