Pandering to the far-Left

I saw this article from Ralph Peters and found it interesting; especially in light of recent commentary I provided regarding the Democrats desire to see us lose in Iraq. I feel compelled to add my two cents on the subject (something I’ve done ad nauseum in the past and will undoubtedly do in the future).
Recently, the New York Times reversed their anti-war course and ran an article from two Washington think-tank members, Michael O'Hanlon of The Brookings Institution and Ken Pollack of Brookings' Saban Center, who recently toured Iraq. What’s surprising is that despite the article’s overwhelming positivity, the Times ran the article rather than adhere to the Left mantra of “cut and run.”
Before we start lauding the Times for their sudden 180 degree turnaround to the RIGHT, let’s remember that this same editorial crew has stopped at nothing to sack President Bush, expose secret military and intelligence programs designed to protect the American people, and use it’s journalistic license to wage partisanship in a forum intended to be nonpartisan.
From the top, it’s sad that the Democrats have placed their political careers as well as interests of radical far-Left fringe groups, ABOVE the interests of this country. Rather than take a frontal approach and confront this dangerous method head-on, thus insuring national security, the Democrats have supposedly listened to their contingencies, despite the fact that American support for the Iraq War is INCREASING.
“But the potentially fatal problem remains the cowardice and selfishness of politicians in both parties who care far more about retaining their offices in the 2008 elections (or gaining higher ones) than they do about Iraq, our troops or our national security.”
In other words folks, they’ve read the contemptible vitriol emanating from places like the Daily Kos message boards and chose to appease the far-Left. I’ll give the Democrats one thing, when they appease they do not merely stop with the Islamic terrorists, they attempt to pacify anyone with a vote.
We’ve been hearing for months that we’ll know more about the surge and progress in Iraq come September. With that said, we’re staring to hear reports that the violence has dropped dramatically throughout the troublesome Al Anbar province and the “Sunni Triangle.”
A normal person would undoubtedly fall on his or her knees and thank the Almighty for such wondrous news. Unfortunately, the Democrats aren’t normal. Rather than witness one of the greatest turnarounds in military history, they’re openly rooting for our defeat in Iraq.
Why? Sadly, to pander and appease the far-Left kooks at MoveOn.org and the Daily Kos.
“Even more important, the fact that the Times accepted the new reality in Iraq - at least to the extent of running a single op-ed about it - makes it more probable that the "last to know" and the "don't want to know" anti-war hucksters on Capitol Hill might start to feel the shift in the wind's direction.”
“Iraq looks more hopeful than it has since mid-2003. Recent polls show that the American electorate's support of the war has been increasing. And, as Monday's column noted, troop morale has soared as soldiers and Marines see street-level results.”
Sadly, this is what the Democrats don’t either want or care to understand. While they champion their love for the American military, they undermine with idle threats to cut off funding for the war, the direct recipient of which being the American military.
Kudos to General Petraus and the military for once again proving their worth and mettle as the world’s truly elite fighting force. Furthemore, despite the obvious advantages of the surge, it will undoubtedly force the Democrats in a corner. Do they continue to undermine the troops and show their true colors as a group of spineless pacifists, or do they do what’s right for this country by standing up to Islamic terror.
Continued support for the Iraq War would be a good start. Socialize this! Personalize this! Radicalize this!
