Blogroll Buzz: Sweetness and Light - The Many Faces of Eid
Muslims around the world are wrapping up their celebration of Eid ul-Adha. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for God. Of course this is the Islamic rip-off of the Torah story of Abraham and Isaac, but what's the difference, right?
Sweetness and Light shows the difference in a New Year's Day blog post.
While the photo above is how CNN wants you to perceive Eid, S&L shows you the darker side of the party.
And then this one takes it personal.
New Delhi: A 45-year-old Muslim man on Monday slit his throat with a knife and sacrificed himself at the shrine of Ghazi Baba in Bahraich District in Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha, police said.
A note was found in which Moharrum Ali had written, "I was sacrificing my life as I once dreamt Allah asking me to offer myself for sacrifice," Superintendent of Police (SP) Pramod Kumar told PTI.
Oooookay...
Why is the religion of peace so violent? Stoning rituals...butchery...sounds like just another day in paradise.
