MI5: over 1,600 people planning terror plots

Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller calls it as she sees it.

The head of MI5 has warned the agency is dealing with up to 30 alleged "mass casualty" terror plots in the UK and abroad involving more than 1,600 individuals.

Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller said MI5 and the police are tackling 200 groups or networks totalling more than 1,600 identified individuals in the UK who are "actively engaged in plotting or facilitating terrorist acts".

She said the terror plots involved plans for suicide attacks with some being directed by al-Qaeda.

Dame Eliza's assessment came in her first public speech since the July 7 terror attacks last year, to an invited audience of academics in east London.

She warned of the prospect that weapons of mass destruction could be used in future terror attacks in the UK.

Dame Eliza said: "Today we see the use of home-made improvised explosive devices, but I suggest tomorrow's threat will include the use of chemicals, bacteriological agents, radioactive materials and even nuclear technology."

She told her audience that MI5's caseload of UK-based terror sympathisers - many of them British citizens - had increased by 80 per cent since January.

She voiced concern that many of those involved were young men and teenagers as young as 16, who were being radicalised by friends and by material viewed on the internet.

Dame Eliza quoted statistics suggesting there was widespread sympathy for terrorism within Britain.

"If the opinion polls conducted in the UK since July are only broadly accurate, over 100,000 of our citizens consider that the July bomb attacks in London were justified," she said.

Dame Eliza added: "More and more people are moving from passive sympathy towards active terrorism through being radicalised or indoctrinated by friends, families, in organised training events here and overseas. Young teenagers are being groomed to be suicide bombers."

She said she was alarmed by the "scale and speed" of radicalisation in the wake of the July 7 bombings.

Dame Eliza said: "It is the youth who are being actively targeted, groomed, radicalised and set on a path that frighteningly quickly could end in their involvement in mass murder of their fellow citizens or their early death in a suicide attack or on a foreign battlefield.

"Killing oneself and others in response is an attractive option for some citizens of this country and others around the world.

"(The) threat is serious, is growing, and will, I believe, be with us for a generation. It is a sustained campaign, not a series of isolated incidents. It aims to wear down our will to resist."

Some reaction to this UK Terror Alert here:

DAME PAULINE NEVILLE-JONES, FORMER CHAIR OF THE JOINT INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE

"If I were in her shoes I think that I would want the citizenry of this country to have some understanding of the security situation that we face.

"I think the days are long gone and I think welcomely long gone, when it was right for government to say 'You can rest secure, government knows what it's doing, we will keep you safe and don't bother your little heads'.

"We can't rest secured. We are sufficiently vulnerable, she knows that she can't necessarily guarantee always to intercept, and therefore I think the right thing is to let us know what she considers the situation to be."

Dame Pauline said that Dame Eliza was indicating what she believed was an issue that needs to be tackled partly by government and partly by "society as a whole".

"It's very, very important we don't treat the roots of this issue as being something where it's for the Muslim communities - and they are plural - to conform themselves somehow to a settled community that has its own ideas," Dame Pauline said.

"We've got to do this together."

Could this be too little too late for the severely radicalized UK?

IHTISHAM HIBATULLAH OF THE BRITISH MUSLIM INITIATIVE

Ihtisham Hibatullah said he was concerned about the stigmatisation of the whole Muslim community following Dame Eliza's claim that 200 groups were involved in plotting.

He said doing so was "completely unfair and unjust against the whole Muslim community" and accused the government and security services of "dragging the Muslim community along in such a way where it creates more hatred towards the community and Islam."

"For the government to accuse 200 organisations and more than a thousand individuals in the community with plotting to endanger the country's security implies that the whole of the Muslim community is under suspicion, which is completely unacceptable.

"The Muslim community is working with all faith groups and different spectrums of the community to form an alliance to create an atmosphere of dialogue."

Indeed I think in the UK the whole Muslim Community is duly under suspicion. What is needed is a little less talk and a lot more action. The UK has been asking the Muslim community to cleanse itself of these nuts. The response has benn only more Muslim councils that want to be a part of the process, or direct the process via the backdoor. At least the UK Government has the nerve to say it. Can you imagine the bloviating from CAIR and the ACLU if such bluntness were acceptable here in America? No, in the US, Islam is the "religion of PC".

Dereliction Of Duty?

From John at Stop The ACLU:

ACLU Applauds Rumsfeld’s Resignation, Calls for Immediate Investigation Into Dereliction of Duty

Off we go into a new direction for America. You know we are off on the wrong foot towards the wrong direction when the changes taking place are cheered by the ACLU! If President Bush thinks nixing Rumsfeld is a way to finding common ground with the newly empowered Democrats and will be enough to satisfy the hunger of the left, he should think again. The ACLU, no doubt speaking the mind of the new majority, want to see his head on a fancier platter.

"The American Civil Liberties Union today applauded Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation from his post as Defense Secretary, and called on Congress to investigate the gross abuse of power committed under his watch.

“Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation is a step in the right direction,” said Anthony D. Romero, ACLU Executive Director. “Rumsfeld is responsible for the torture and abuse of detainees in U. S. military custody and must be held accountable for the failures that occurred on his watch. He has placed the blame on junior military members and has been nothing but derelict in his duty. Congress must initiate an immediate and exhaustive investigation into his six-year-long record of unlawful activity, violations of the rule of law and complicity in the executive branch abuse of power.”

America's new direction...old school style. Same crap... different balance of power...[yawn...]

What does the ACLU know about duty anyway?

Another ACLU Attack On America And Our Border Security

Penn Law School
Penn Law School, ACLU and National Employment Law Project Urge Protection for Undocumented Workers

PHILADELPHIA -- "The University of Pennsylvania Law Schools Transnational Legal Clinic, along with the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Employment Law Project, are urging the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to find the United States in violation of human rights obligations.

The groups have filed a petition claiming that the U.S. has failed to protect undocumented workers from exploitation and discrimination in the workplace and that employment and labor protections under state laws, including entitlement to hold an employer responsible for a workplace injury, have not been applied to undocumented workers."

"About 5 percent of the U.S. labor force, approximately 6 million people, are undocumented workers." [In other words, Illegal Aliens. Criminals.-Rastaman]

"Until the law recognizes workers human rights, providing equal rights and remedies to all without regard for immigration status, we will continue to see unscrupulous employers recruiting and exploiting undocumented workers, to the detriment of the health, safety and dignity of all workers," said Sarah Paoletti, clinical supervisor of the Transnational Legal Clinic."

This all sounds very fine and upstanding until you consider that the ACLU is calling for equal rights not for citizens but for non-citizen criminals. This means that the rights of citizens must come second.

For example, if you, a citizen, go to the Emergency Room, you may have to wait behind some criminal, who snuck into the US, before your own emergency can be treated, and you will have to pay while the criminal will not. In fact, you will have to pay for the criminals treatment out of your taxes and increases in health care fees.

The more your rights as a citizen are pushed aside by criminals swarming in over our borders, the more your quality of life is degraded. The more protection given these criminals, the more they will swarm in.

Giving Down in Dearbornistan

The Islamic Center in Dearborn
DEARBORN, Michigan-- By the end of Ramadan last year, Najah Bazzy remembers having more than $10,000 in cash donations to distribute to the needy, and a vast auditorium ringed with tables groaning with enough free food for 400 poor families to celebrate the holiday.

This year, Bazzy formalized the good works she has been doing unofficially for a decade among the tens of thousands of Muslims who live in the Dearborn area by establishing a charity, Zaman International. But as the holiday arrived this year, charitable contributions plummeted. She said cash donations amounted to less than $4,000, and for the first time since she began her charity work she bought food to feed about 85 needy families instead of counting on gifts.

There are similar stories in Muslim communities across the country. Set off by the pervasive fear that donations to an Islamic charity could bring unwanted attention from federal agents looking into potential ties to terrorism, many people within Muslim American communities have become reluctant to donate to Islamic causes, including charities.

"The sad fact is that there are some Islamic charities involved in terrorist financing. We can't close our eyes to that," said Daniel L. Glaser, the deputy assistant secretary for terrorist financing and financial crimes. "We have to find ways to deal with that."

Imam Qazwini, the descendant of a long line of prominent Iraqi Shiite Muslim clerics, points out that many Muslim Americans, particularly those from the Arab world, fled the region to escape repressive regimes, expecting the United States to provide both freedom and opportunity. Instead they find themselves facing similar problems.

"Many people who came from the Middle East still live with the psyche of being chased by the intelligence forces," he said in an interview. "Having these same forces acting here intensifies the sense of fear in these communities."

"It seems like the terrorists have been able to touch our foundations-our civil liberties are being compromised, our religious freedoms are being compromised."

Regarding that last quote-You know who to thank then. I'm sure that CAIR and the ACLU are looking into some religious freedom lawsuit they can file on their behalf. Wait... did I say CAIR, ACLU, and religious freedom in the same sentence. There must not be a Jew or a Christian involved.

(T/F) This Is Security ...

Just for fun, let's try to guess which of the statements is true and which is false. (Hint - Elimination by logic will be neither accepted nor necessary):

1) Al Quada has threatened to set off dirty bombs in seven American stadiums this weekend.
2) The ACLU has just succeeded in making contraband searches illegal at NFL stadiums.
3) College football stadiums have excellent security.
4) High school football stadiums are most secure in Texas because high school marching band moms tend to be better armed there.

Answer: The first two are true. I don't know about number three, and can't comment on #4.

For extra points, write in your own words why the threats aren't credible. "Because I said so" doesn't count, but extrapolation is okay. Use all the theoretical models you can think of.

For more extra points: Pretend like something actually did happen this weekend. Estimate how much taxpayer money will be spent in Congressional investigations aimed at proving it was Bush's fault all along. (Hint - you may count as high as you know how to, then round up to the nearest hundred million.)

Islamic Indoctrination in American Schools

Thomas More Law Center
According To Some Federal Courts And Public Schools: Christianity Out, Islam In

ANN ARBOR, MI – A three-week intensive indoctrination into the Islamic faith by a California public school district was allowed to stand by the U. S. Supreme Court last week. A California federal trial court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had earlier ruled that such indoctrination was constitutional.

The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, outraged by the obvious double standard in the application of the Establishment Clause jurisprudence by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which has held “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional, but allows this kind of Islamic instruction in public schools, had requested that the Supreme Court review the case.

The materials used by Byron Union School District seventh graders stated, “From the beginning, you and your classmates will become Muslims.” Students were instructed to accept as “fact” that Jihad is “a struggle by Muslims against oppression, invasion, and injustice,” and to accept as “truth” that the Koran “is God’s word as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.” Students were taught the five duties (Pillars of Faith) all Muslims must fulfill and were required to complete a project for each duty, including fasting, in order to pass.

According to Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Law Center, “This three-week course was for the most part propaganda that could be used to unwittingly recruit home grown terrorist. Nevertheless, some public schools are allowing this kind of religious instruction under the guise of diversity instruction.

Impressionable twelve-year-old students were required to take Islamic names, wear identification tags that displayed their new Islamic name and the Star and Crescent Moon. Students also were handed materials that instructed them to “remember Allah always so that you may prosper,” and memorized and recited the “Bismillah” or “In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate,” which students also wrote on banners that were hung on the classroom walls. Students also had to memorize parts of Islamic prayers and verses from the Koran.

Thompson continued, “No federal court would have permitted a class where public school students were taught to ‘become Catholics’ for three weeks, selected a saint’s name, wore identification tags that displayed their new name and a Crucifix, and engaged in Catholic religious practices. Here, however, students were subjected to Islamic religious indoctrination and propaganda and the courts turned a blind eye. The Supreme Court missed an opportunity to demonstrate that the Establishment Clause is to be applied the same to all religions and is not just a weapon to be used only against Christians.”

Edward L. White III, trial counsel with the Thomas More Law Center who handled the case, commented, “I am surprised the Supreme Court did not accept this case for review. The case presented significant issues of national importance concerning public school education and religious indoctrination of children.”

Is this okay with people? We aren't allowed to have a moment of prayer at the beginning of the school day. Christian groups aren't allowed to use school property for meetings, even after the school day. The Boy Scouts are attacked regularly by the ACLU and denied the use of public property because they swear an oath to do their duty to God and Country.

I have a hard time wrapping my mind around how someone can justify this kind of craziness in their own heads. There are people who seem to be ashamed of being American. They seem to feel they need to appologize that they live in the most successful republic in the world, the most powerful nation in the world, the wealthiest nation in the world. For some reason, these people seem to feel if they embrace our enemies cultures than we won't be such capitalist pigs.

There is nothing wrong with being successful. It's okay. It really is.

Now stop with the guilt trip and start supporting your country.
