Dershowitz on “The Right of Return”

Alan Dershowitz asked regarding the right of return; What if the shoe were on the other foot?

Dershowitz writes:

Recently, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced that, as a matter of deep principle, he would never accept a right of return by Palestinian refugees and their descendants. His argument was simple: the Palestinians, aided by the surrounding Arab countries, started a war against the new state of Israel in an effort to destroy it; had they instead accepted the partition—the two-state solution—Israel would have accepted the presence of significant numbers of Palestinians in the new Jewish state. But once the Palestinians started a genocidal war, the inevitable consequence was the creation of refugees. Even if some were in fact forced to leave by Israeli military commanders, such actions were in response to the attack by the Palestinians. Olmert is absolutely right as a matter of principle. The best proof of the correctness of his view is to imagine what would be happening today if the shoe were on the other foot. Imagine if the Palestinians had won and many Israelis had been forced to leave, while others left of their own volition or as the result of fear. Now imagine those Israelis seeking a right of return, either in the immediate aftermath of the war or sixty years later. It is inconceivable that a Palestinian state would grant Jewish refugees a right of return. Certainly that would be true if the number of Israeli refugees and their descendants threatened to outnumber the Palestinian population. How can a right of return go only one way? Has Yemen offered its Jewish refugee population any right of return or compensation? Has Egypt? Has Iran? Has Iraq? Has Syria? Of course not. Having concluded that Olmert was absolutely right as a matter of principle, he may have been wrong as a matter of tactics. The Palestinian narrative, whether factually correct or incorrect, is a reality in the minds of most Palestinians. Earlier Israeli Prime Ministers recognized that, and were prepared to compromise principle for a pragmatic peace. They indicated a willingness to accept some symbolic right of return coupled with compensation.

There is a comparable issue of principle on the West Bank. Clearly, Jews have a principled claim to continuing to live in Hebron, the birthplace of biblical Judaism, but even Prime Minister Olmert is prepared to compromise that principle in the interest of a pragmatic peace. I hope he will also be open to a pragmatic compromise with regard to the right of return, if such a compromise were necessary to bring about a real peace. This issue is of great importance in light of the Saudi Peace Plan, which is ambiguous on the issue of refugees, demanding a just resolution, but not specifying the details of such a resolution. (emphasis mine)

I do not agree with Dershowitz - there will be no right of return because there will never be peace. The Palestinians, were they serious about peace would have agreed to former Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s offer in 2000 - offering 97% of Israeli land to the Palestinians under direction from the United States. The Palestinians, namely Yasser Arafat refused. How can anyone believe that there can be a right of return to what does not belong to any Arab - Palestinian or not?

For peace one expects Israel to sell her soul to the devil, while many Americans sleep with the enemy. As much as this subject has been spouted around like a soccer ball - the end result is that this has little to do with the peace for Israel, or the Palestinians. It is about American money and our governments need to control even the uncontrollable.

Would Dershowitz be so generous to the Mexicans if they demanded Texas? Would our government allow foreign entities to tell us how to run our country? Would we tolerate piece mealing the land of Texas between Americans and Mexicans? It is amazing though how this is what the U.S. has been doing regarding Israel with the so-called “road map to peace.”

Perhaps I would believe America’s sincerity when it comes to aiding Israel were it not for one simple fact - America is still bowing down in the Saud Thrown Rooms of Oil.

An Honor Killing

Warning: Graphic Video. Watch at your own discretion.

I recieved this as an e-mail tip from Publius Pundit. Apparently a runaway Kurdish girl (of the Yezidi religion)from Mosul, Iraq was caught and stoned in a punishment arranged by her uncles. She stayed the night at her Muslim boyfriends house and when she returned, this was her family reunion.

I'm not sure why this region breeds such violence. Honor killings are ridiculous to western eyes, probably because we have been freed from maniacal prophets of old. And many of us have been taught a different and more "honorable" spin on the "prodigal" child.

More on a protest in Iraq against this and other honor killings at Gateway Pundit.

Hamas proves terror groups unfit to govern

Palestinians last year elected the terror group Hamas to govern their failing government, which now under Hamas is failing to govern at all.

This past March heralded at least 46 kidnappings of civilians in the Gaza Strip, as well as more tham 25 killings of Palestinians by fellow Palestinians. The Palestinian Liberation Army calls it “anarchy.”

The violence is just the tip of the iceberg in “Hamasistan.” Other troubling signs include:

International Exodus: Foreigners who came to help are starting to flee for their lives - even armed foreigners. One group of Egyptian military officers has reportedly been recalled to Cairo on account of the dangers, with the two generals who remain spending most of their time in Israel, for fear of violence.

The United Nations may even declare Gaza a “dangerous zone.” That would precipitate the evacuation of nearly all foreign nationals.

This would be disastrous for the general population: Nearly two-thirds of Gaza’s 1.4 million residents claim refugee status, and rely on the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA) and other aid organizations.

Unsafe Streets: The Palestinian media reports that crimes, including car theft and abductions, are skyrocketing. Iranian-trained Hamas forces are battling Egyptian-trained Fatah forces, rather than policing the streets. National Security Adviser Muhammad Dahlan admits that “many young men prefer to work for clans and not the security forces.”

Last Sunday, a group calling itself the Islamic Swords of Truth, a self-appointed vice squad, claimed responsibility for bombing the Gaza Bible Society’s bookstore and two Internet cafes.

In response, Palestinians are taking the law into their own hands. In March, one of Gaza’s large clans gathered to blockade a main road in Northern Gaza to protest against the targeting of one of their shops by a vice squad. The family demanded that the government bring law and order back to the streets.

Dwindling Media Freedom: Last week, security guards broke up a peaceful media protest of the government’s inability to secure the release of Alan Johnston, the BBC journalist kidnapped more than a month ago - and injured three journalists.

A group calling itself the Tawhid and Jihad Brigades just issued a statement claiming to have executed Johnston. Foreign journalists now fear for their lives.

Health Risks: The collapse of a sewage-treatment pool in Umm al-Naser, a North Gaza village, killed three women and two toddlers and injured 25 others in March. The “sewage tsunami” submerged at least 25 homes and caused untold damages to the 3,000-person village.

Fadel Kawash, head of the Palestinian Water Authority, told the Associated Press that a number of sewage projects, including the one in Umm al-Naser, were halted when Hamas pulled funding after their electoral victory in January 2006. Said one U.N. official, “this has been a tragedy that was predicted and documented.”

Officials believe that another cesspool collapse is possible, unless prophylactic steps are soon taken.

Provocations: Hamas continues to permit provocations against Israel from Gaza - notably, the homemade Kassam missiles shot into Israel nearly every day.

Israel was warned that “Israel must begin to think about thwarting a more dangerous situation in Gaza, should Hamas develop more dangerous capabilities.”

Hamas is bating Israel into a confrontation. Hamas shows no regard for the Palestinian polulous and Gaza is the most densely populated area on earth. The suffering in Gaza proves that terror groups are unfit to govern with total indifference to the well being of people and their indifference to the complete human suffering.

Israeli Arabs: We Are With Hezbollah

The Arab Fifth Column in Israel got a little bolder yesterday. The Balad Party (Arab Knesset Party) held a rally in support of ex-MK Bishara. Bishara, who just resently resigned, is currently under investigation for suspected collaboration with the enemy (Hezbollah) during the war last summer. Here is YNET;

Over 3,000 supporters attended the rally in Nazareth on Saturday, and protested what they defined as “the cruel campaign against Bishara and the Arab population in Israel”.

The rally was organized by all political Arab factions, and featured speakers such as Hadash chairman MK Mohammad Barakeh, Sheikh Raed Salah, MK Talab El Sana, and Higher Arab Monitoring Committee Chairman Shawki Khatib.

"What is Bishara accused of? Collaborating with the enemy? Hezbollah isn't our enemy, the Israeli occupation is the enemy.
Olmert, Diskin and Lieberman the immigrant will not succeed in removing us from our land," Hadash's Secretary-General Ayman Auda said.

These are not Palestinian protestors. These are "Israeli-Arabs" who enjoy the full benefits of Israeli citizenship. They have the right to vote, and practice the freedom of religion, speech and press. They receive medical benefits and social security. According to a new bill in the Knesset, they will receive a disproportional amount of education subsidies.

These are the same Arabs who protested a lack of bomb shelters when Hezbollah Katyushas were raining down upon them. What hypocrisy!!

Some argue that they receive more than the Jews. The Arabs do not have to serve in the Army (3 years) and payment of real estate taxes and water usage fees are virtually non-existent and go uncollected.

Apparently, the Arabs have the right to elect traitors to the government. Apparently, the Arabs have the right to exercise their right to freedom of assembly even when these rallies give aid and comfort to the enemy.

These Arabs are protesting against Israel's right to exist, even at their own expense. They know all too well what life would be like for them under Palestinian rule. Corruption, random executions and no working social system would be the order of the day. The hatred for Jews and Israel is so strong and ingrained in their culture that they are willing to commit suicide (literally) in order to evacuate the Jews.

These people are traitors. One and all. Make them an offer they can't refuse. Go to Lebanon, Syria, or Jordan. Live with your brothers. Enjoy a "free democratic society". If things are so tough here, the door is open.

U.S. Captures Senior al-Qaida Operative

And now a word from Club Gitmo:

After being secretly held by the CIA for months, an Iraqi who was one of al-Qaida's most senior and experienced operatives has been shipped to the Guantanamo Bay military prison for terror suspects, officials said Friday.

Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi is believed responsible for plotting cross-border attacks from Pakistan on U.S. forces in Afghanistan, and he led an effort to assassinate Pakistan's president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, and U.N. officials, the Pentagon said.

The transfer of al-Iraqi, said to have been an associate of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, makes him the 15th so called "high-value" detainee known to be handed over to military officials at the military facility in Cuba from CIA control.

Now watch the nations dhimmicrats cry out against injustice and for freedom...for al-Iraqi.

Abbas' Terrorists Dance On American Blood

If you are a Democrat, or for that matter an American, then this piece should disturb you. Very much. The following quotes come from Abu Ahmed, Northern Gaza commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade; a terrorist organization which is an offshoot of Condi Rice's ray of hope in the Middle East, Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah organization. Many of the Al-Aqsa fighters have been trained by Americans and subsidized by US taxpayer dollars (just this month Congress approved a $59m aid package for Fatah). This is what he has to say today (courtesy of World Net Daily);

"It was a very happy day for us Palestinians to hear nine American dogs were killed in Iraq. We feel encouraged and we feel great solidarity with our brothers in Iraq, and we consider this heroic operation, which aims to humiliate the Americans, as proof that the will of our resistance is more powerful than any (big) American war airplanes,"

"The coming victory in Iraq proves the next step is to release Palestine if we speak in one voice. We the Palestinians are learning both on the political and military level from our brothers, the heroes in Iraq. They are a model for us. We can be inspired from them because the challenge the Americans are putting in the Green Zone is similar to the challenge the Zionists are putting on us. And in spite of Israeli pilotless drones, we are succeeding to shoot rockets and winning."

Folks, this animal is dancing on the blood of dead Americans. This animal and others like him were trained and bankrolled by America. Isn't it time to reevaluate the situation? Isn't it obvious that any withdrawal from Iraq before a total victory is attained will be viewed as a horrible defeat? Isn't it time for sympathizers and defeatists like Reid, Pelosi and Co. to resign and move out to the sands of Arabia? This must stop now.

The Jihadi at the Gate and the Jihadi Within

For a Western mind to understand a Jihadi is hard, if not nearly impossible. The logic seems different, the thoughtwave patterns seem to transmit on a different wavelength. Therefore, one must carefully examine what makes a Jihadi tick. While, Eastern philosophies and way of life differ from their Western counterparts there are similarities, there is a lot more in common than first meets the eye. Life’s value may vary but basically every normal, healthy, human being wants a good moral life and enough sustenance to provide comfortably for one’s family. And yet, the Jihadi is different! Life has no value, happiness on this plane of existence is seemingly of little consequence. Especially so, because of the very materialistic Paradise promised by Mohammed as Yid With Lid documents.

To help us understand what makes a Jihadi, I will quote from an article by a Pakistani writer (himself, a Muslim), Ziauddin Sardar, which appeared in Britain’s New Statesman:

What goes on in the mind of a jihadi?

A few weeks ago, I had a close encounter with a jihadi suicide bomber. That got me thinking. We know that jihadis are motivated by a perverted notion of religion. But not all jihadis are suicide bombers. What was the extra ingredient, I wondered, that turned a jihadi into one? What’s going on in his mind?

I say “him” because most of the jihadis in Pakistan so far have been young men. But this may change. Last month, burqa-clad female students took over the Hafsa mosque in Islamabad. To begin with, they wanted to defend the mosque, which the authorities want to demolish. Then they started kidnapping “prostitutes” - which was basically anyone not wearing a burqa. Now they are demanding sharia law and want to turn Pakistan into an “Islamic state”. If their demands are not met, they say, they will unleash a wave of suicide bombings.

Yes, gentle reader, a female mind can be as easily indoctrinated as a male’s mind, even if the “perks” are not quite the same…

I take these women seriously. While filming a Dispatches investigation for Channel 4 on Pakistan, I went to the Hafsa mosque. The female students stood, shoulder to shoulder, wielding sticks. Some kept a vigil on the roof where a machine-gun was on display. Security forces prevented me from getting inside the mosque, but I managed to talk to their shrouded comrades a few days later. Although their rhetoric was blood-curdling, what really worried me was how contented they were. They were angry and ready to kill and be killed. But, above all, they oozed buckets of self-satisfaction.

I found the same contentment in the jihadi I interviewed in Karachi. He was captured in a police raid wearing a jacket containing 6.5 kilos of explosive, and carrying three grenades. Still in his early twenties, if he had succeeded in his mission he would have killed many people. Armed police brought him for interview, his face covered, and in shackles that reminded me of the Middle Ages. I was nervous. But he was cool as a mountain stream. He was neither disturbed nor concerned; he showed no feelings or emotions. He was exceptionally happy to be a jihadi, he said. I learned from the police that most jihadis in their custody were like this.

What is it that so hypnotizes a Jihadi, as to be happy with the potential of pain or even death? What powerful mind altering drug are being applied? To give you an idea of what early Jihadists were like, the word “assassin” is derived from the Arabic word “hashasshin.” It originally described a militant sect of Ismaili Muslims that was active between the 8th and 14th centuries. The members who were charged with killing the sect’s enemies supposedly smoked opium or hassish prior to carrying out their deed. However, according to the Wikipedia, “Today, it is known that hashishinnya was an offensive term used to depict this cult by its Muslim and Mongolian detractors; the extreme zeal and cold preparation to murder makes it unlikely they ever used drugs. As far as is known they only used daggers, rarely survived their attacks, even when successful.” So too, today, no real drugs are known to be used. Instead the teachers, use brain washing techniques on their subjects from a very early age, onwards.

What makes them so contented? The idea that they have a place in paradise is partly responsible. But there is more at play than just religion.

Terrorist groups, like most employers, demand certain qualities from their recruits. And the jihadi recruits have to meet certain psycho logical standards. It helps if they have been educated in a madrasa, where they are taught that Islam is not a faith or a world-view but an absolute, an unchanging list of dos and don’ts that have to be adhered to at all costs.

But more important is for the jihadis to have a psychological make-up that can easily be manipulated by their handlers. Jihadis do not receive much training. What they do go through is a process of speedy but effective brainwashing. They have to be impressionable, empty vessels into which any old junk can be poured and defined as Absolute Truth. That is why so many of them tend to be so young.

The brainwashing is achieved through two processes. First, their mental framework is rearranged and fitted with exclusive transmitters and no receivers. They can speak but cannot listen. Rather, they can spout only certain tailor-made phrases and pieties. So a conversation with them can only be a one-way affair. They become quite incapable of rotational thought, and it becomes impossible to argue or reason with them. Second, they are transported into a beatific space where all human concerns become irrelevant. Hence, the contentment that they experience. The jihadi I interviewed was having some kind of mystical experience, I felt. He was altogether on another plane, a different universe, where what happened to him or what he did to others was totally meaningless. The window of paradise had been opened for him, and he could feel its fragrant draught. That experience was the only thing that really mattered to him.

So, what goes on in the minds of jihadis? Nothing. Because there is nothing inside them. All their humanity has been flushed out. Emotions and feelings have evaporated; critical faculties and moral compasses have been removed; they have been divorced from human concerns and experience. That’s what I saw when I met the female jihadis of Hafsa mosque. I felt their contentment. And it made me quiver with fear.

Yes, gentle reader, it is very scary! As someone living in the West, what scares me the most is not just the Islamic Jihadi. There is also another, (albeit unwitting) Jihadi. He/she is the one who will stupidly and unthinkingly repeat, like sheep, the mantras taught by left wing ideologists. Noam Chomsky, for example, who never met a jihadist he didn’t like, poses for photo ops with every sworn enemy of the US or Israel. He is an author praised by opportunistic drug dealer/politicos, like Hugo Chávez. Chomsky’s grandiloquent ideas, however, when tested in the light of true freedom, when tested in the light of the lessons of history, fall apart! They are like a house without foundation, it may look beautiful, but is not firmly grounded just as his ideas have no grounding in reason.

Yet Chomsky, like the teachers of the Pakistani Jihadists, has seduced the mind and shutdown the thinking and reasoning abilities of multitudes of impressionable youth. With revisionist history that ignores key facts and often substitutes them with fantasies, he and a whole slew of academics (the discredited Ward Churchill, immediately comes to mind!) have succeeded in producing an America where celebrities’ inane pronouncements are taken as supreme truths, as deep philosophical statements.

Chomsky, while he may hate the US and everything the West stands for, is no fool! I doubt he himself believes even a tenth of what he proclaims. So, what is his motivation? Anyone who has known the good professor, anyone acquainted with him since childhood will tell you that Noam is first and foremost a superb self-promoter no matter whose head he must tread on, no matter what controversial or outrages pronouncement he must fabricate… but there is more… By practically becoming the head theologian of extreme liberal politics, he positioned himself for a very important position. If George Soros and Michael Moore succeed in their vision, Chomsky would become a prominent member of that government. Were it not for the fact that, if they actually do succeed (and I quiver with fear at the mere thought!), it will soon become a World Caliphate. Will Chomsky, the Jew, then become Al-Noami, the Islamist? Could he be that hypocritical, would he sell his soul to save his neck? You betcha!

Before you, gentle reader, tell me that I’m being outrageous myself, that my comparison of Liberalism with Jihadism is unfair and has no basis in truth, let me repeat you the following from the article above: “First, their mental framework is rearranged and fitted with exclusive transmitters and no receivers. They can speak but cannot listen. Rather, they can spout only certain tailor-made phrases and pieties. So a conversation with them can only be a one-way affair. They become quite incapable of rotational thought, and it becomes impossible to argue or reason with them.” Sound familiar, anyone?

The Sunset of Christianity

The last sunray
Originally uploaded by Mor (bcnbits).
In 1900 Muslims constituted 32 percent of Africa's population; in 1950 they had increased to 37.3 percent [Ecumenical Review, The, July, 2001], and by 2005 they passed the 50% mark.

Normally one would ask, "Who cares what percentage of Africans are Muslim, since Africa appears to present little danger to Western Civilization?" However, consider this: Ethiopia had five million people in 1900; now it has 64 million, and it's projected to have 145 million by 2050 [BBC]. The largest religion in Ethiopia? Islam.

So what we have is an increasing percentage of an increasing population increasingly becoming Muslim. Africa now has the highest birthrate in the world at 5.1 babies per baby-factory. All western European fertility rates are below 2.0, the replacement rate [Royal Geographical Society]. However, hidden inside this dismal statistic is the fact that Muslims within Europe have a birthrate twice that of Christians. So while Christian Europe is declining, Muslim Europe is increasing.

Women and the Muslim World

Saudi Arabia, is the land where Wahabbism reigns supreme, where holy Mecca has for centuries been the place every Muslim must journey to at least once during his lifetime. You would expect that in such a country women would be protected, they would have no fears of being preyed on by men, especially since they usually must travel accompanied by a male… Yes, you would definitely expect that, but you would be woefully wrong!

TMQ2 has a very interesting post on Ed Hussain and how the time spent as a teacher in Saudia Arabia made him turn against extremism. I won’t repost the whole article here, but I will quote a few paragraphs on the Saudi Arabian male’s attitude towards women:

My first clash with Saudi culture came when, being driven around in a bulletproof jeep, I saw African women in black abayas tending to the rubbish bins outside restaurants, residences and other busy places.

“Why are there so many black cleaners on the streets?” I asked the driver. The driver laughed. “They’re not cleaners. They are scavengers; women who collect cardboard from all across Jeddah and then sell it. They also collect bottles, drink cans, bags.”

“You don’t find it objectionable that poor immigrant women work in such undignified and unhygienic conditions on the streets?”

“Believe me, there are worse jobs women can do.”

Though it grieves me to admit it, the driver was right. In Saudi Arabia women indeed did do worse jobs. Many of the African women lived in an area of Jeddah known as Karantina, a slum full of poverty, prostitution and disease.

A visit to Karantina, a perversion of the term “quarantine”, was one of the worst of my life. Thousands of people who had been living in Saudi Arabia for decades, but without passports, had been deemed “illegal” by the government and, quite literally, abandoned under a flyover.

A non-Saudi black student I had met at the British Council accompanied me. “Last week a woman gave birth here,” he said, pointing to a ramshackle cardboard shanty. Disturbed, I now realised that the materials I had seen those women carrying were not always for sale but for shelter.

I had never expected to see such naked poverty in Saudi Arabia.

At that moment it dawned on me that Britain, my home, had given refuge to thousands of black Africans from Somalia and Sudan: I had seen them in their droves in Whitechapel. They prayed, had their own mosques, were free and were given government housing.

Many Muslims enjoyed a better lifestyle in non-Muslim Britain than they did in Muslim Saudi Arabia. At that moment I longed to be home again.

Infidel Britain, Ed Hussain’s home country, treated so many of his coreligionists much better than the country that was home to Islam’s holiest site… but, let’s continue…

Racism was an integral part of Saudi society. My students often used the word “nigger” to describe black people. Even dark-skinned Arabs were considered inferior to their lighter-skinned cousins. I was living in the world’s most avowedly Muslim country, yet I found it anything but. I was appalled by the imposition of Wahhabism in the public realm, something I had implicitly sought as an Islamist.

Frankly, there are still to this day black slaves in Saudi Arabia. You’d think Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be picketing the Saudi Embassy, right? Naaaahhh, it will never happen. They know they’d be ignored until they got bored to death… the media would soon loose interest… or an "accident" would befall them…

Part of this local culture consisted of public institutions being segregated and women banned from driving on the grounds that it would give rise to “licentiousness”. I was repeatedly astounded at the stares Faye got from Saudi men and I from Saudi women.

Faye was not immodest in her dress. Out of respect for local custom, she wore the long black abaya and covered her hair in a black scarf. In all the years I had known my wife, never had I seen her appear so dull. Yet on two occasions she was accosted by passing Saudi youths from their cars. On another occasion a man pulled up beside our car and offered her his phone number.

In supermarkets I only had to be away from Faye for five minutes and Saudi men would hiss or whisper obscenities as they walked past. When Faye discussed her experiences with local women at the British Council they said: “Welcome to Saudi Arabia.”

And yet in Denmark, Mostafa Chendid - the new top Imam - declared in a newspaper article that all women, including non-Muslim should wear the head veil. Why? Because of the 5% to 10% of men who can’t help themselves and may commit acts of violence or at least indecency against women on account of… them being women. While Westerners also perpetrate acts of rape, the Western world

does punish the perpetrator not the victim

. Let’s not forget the recent trial in Saudi Arabia where a woman managed to fight back four would be rapists, killing one of them, but nevertheless received 90 lashes as a punishment for having been accompanied by a male she was not married to. Let us, also, not forget that before an act is accepted as rape, Sharia law, insists on four witnesses to the act..

After a month in Jeddah I heard from an Asian taxi driver about a Filipino worker who had brought his new bride to live with him in Jeddah. After visiting the Balad shopping district the couple caught a taxi home. Some way through their journey the Saudi driver complained that the car was not working properly and perhaps the man could help push it. The passenger obliged. Within seconds the Saudi driver had sped off with the man’s wife in his car and, months later, there was still no clue as to her whereabouts. We had heard stories of the abduction of women from taxis by sex-deprived Saudi youths. At a Saudi friend’s wedding at a luxurious hotel in Jeddah, women dared not step out of their hotel rooms and walk to the banqueting hall for fear of abduction by the bodyguards of a Saudi prince who also happened to be staying there.

Why had the veil and segregation not prevented such behaviour? My Saudi acquaintances, many of them university graduates, argued strongly that, on the contrary, it was the veil and other social norms that were responsible for such widespread sexual frustration among Saudi youth.

At work the British Council introduced free internet access for educational purposes. Within days the students had downloaded the most obscene pornography from sites banned in Saudi Arabia, but easily accessed via the British Council’s satellite connection. Segregation of the sexes, made worse by the veil, had spawned a culture of pent-up sexual frustration that expressed itself in the unhealthiest ways.

Using Bluetooth technology on mobile phones, strangers sent pornographic clips to one another. Many of the clips were recordings of homosexual acts between Saudis and many featured young Saudis in orgies in Lebanon and Egypt. The obsession with sex in Saudi Arabia had reached worrying levels: rape and abuse of both sexes occurred frequently, some cases even reaching the usually censored national press.

Isn’t it interesting that the very culture that was meant to foster morality, that was meant to protect women against the animal instincts of certain males, has instead fostered the exact opposite? Could it be that the religion does in fact mean to foster morality, but IslamoFascist interpretations have instead resulted in creating the immorality and disregard for human life it was meant to suppress?

Psychologists have long told us that extreme repression of any natural urge will prompt the individual to find another outlet for relief, could that explain the propensity for violence among certain elements who claim Islam as their religion?

My students told me about the day in March 2002 when the Muttawa [the religious police] had forbidden firefighters in Mecca from entering a blazing school building because the girls inside were not wearing veils. Consequently 15 young women burnt to death, but Wahhabism held its head high, claiming that God’s law had been maintained.

God’s law had been maintained. When human life is meaningless, what do fifteen young girl’s lives amount to?!?

As a young Islamist, I organised events at college and in the local community that were strictly segregated and I believed in it. Living in Saudi Arabia, I could see the logical outcome of such segregation.

In my Islamist days we relished stating that Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases were the result of the moral degeneracy of the West. Large numbers of Islamists in Britain hounded prostitutes in Brick Lane and flippantly quoted divorce and abortion rates in Britain. The implication was that Muslim morality was superior. Now, more than ever, I was convinced that this too was Islamist propaganda, designed to undermine the West and inject false confidence in Muslim minds.

I worried whether my observations were idiosyncratic, the musings of a wandering mind. I discussed my troubles with other British Muslims working at the British Council. Jamal, who was of a Wahhabi bent, fully agreed with what I observed and went further. “Ed, my wife wore the veil back home in Britain and even there she did not get as many stares as she gets when we go out here.” Another British Muslim had gone as far as tinting his car windows black in order to prevent young Saudis gaping at his wife.

Swedish victim, Muslim gang rape
(photo from: IRIS BLOG)

There is more than ample evidence of the propensity of Muslims to excuse their crimes against women as something caused by the women themselves, the victims, because of the provocative way they dress or act. Frankly, the overwhelming majority of Western men see those same women dress and act in the exact same way and yet they are hardly a threat to the women around them.

Is Islamist morality truly superior to Western morality? After living in Saudi Arabia, Islamist Ed Hussain says it’s not. “The implication was that Muslim morality was superior. Now, more than ever, I was convinced that this too was Islamist propaganda, designed to undermine the West and inject false confidence in Muslim minds.” The spate of rapes perpetrated by Islamics throughout Europe or even in the Muslim world, further prove that the opposite is the truth.

This is not meant, in any way, as an indictment of every Muslim male! My Palestinian next door neighbors (with whom I am very close) are devout Muslim professionals, both. I’ve hardly ever seen a more loving couple, I’ve seldom seen such devotion and respect for one another. I have no doubt there are thousands of couples like them here, in Europe and even in Muslim countries. Nevertheless, there is something within the Islamic culture, as practiced today, that seems to foster violence, specifically against women. Is it not time for reform, time for reinterpretation?

Islam failed Iraq; not U.S.

John Gonzalez at Dhimmitude News Network wrote this short but to the point post. I would like to share this here because it is the truth. It is not the U.S.'s fault what has happened in Iraq, it is Islam's fault.

The violence in Iraq is in keeping with the modus operandi of terrorism. Sunni killing Shia and vice versa, hey, what happen to the religion of peace? Bin Laden was quoted once as saying ” with a nuclear bomb I could kill a million Shia in a day” are you as confused and frustrated as I am?

Islam is suppose to unite Moslems yet, this rife between Sunni and Shia is one of, if not the primary reason for all the violence we see in Baghdad. Granted a U.S. presence does not help matters, as far as Moslems are concerned any non-Moslem presence generates a similar reaction. To somehow blame America for the woes of Iraq is nonsense. Any thinking person can see that this deep seated “hatred” between Sunni and Shite is the fuel for the violence.

The U.S. role has shifted from a “liberator” to a “protector”. If left to themselves, the Iraqis driven by “religious” bias will destroy themselves. I scratch my head about our MSM not exposing and reporting what is the “reality” in Iraq and Islam. Islam’s so-called leaders are in league with the blood shed by virtue of the fact that they do not speak out about the senseless “terrorism”. Terrorism perpetrated against their fellow believers and in the name of their “religion of peace”?

Submission, not Peace!

We in the West have long been led to believe that Islam by its very definition is “the religion of peace.” Precisely because of that misconception we are continually baffled at what appear to be willful acts by people bent on destroying any semblance of peace between Muslims and infidels… or even between Muslims themselves. I found a rather interesting and very informative article on the University of Southern California’s site. Read it carefully, read between the lines, and you’ll come to a very different understanding of Islam than you’ve had heretofore:

Misconception 1

Islam is `the religion of peace’ because:

    • the Arabic word Islam is derived from the Arabic word “Al-Salaam” which means peace.

It might seem strange to think of this as a misconception, but in fact it is. The root word of Islam is “al-silm” which means “submission” or “surrender.” It is understood to mean “submission to Allah.” In spite of whatever noble intention has caused many a Muslim to claim that Islam is derived primarily from peace, this is not true. Allah says in the Qur’an (translated):

[2:136] Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us and that which was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have surrendered. [Arabic “Muslimoon”]

A secondary root of Islam may be “Al-Salaam” (peace), however the text of the Qur’an makes it clear that Allah has clearly intended the focus of this way of life to be submission to Him. This entails submission to Him at all times, in times of peace, war, ease, or difficulty.

The moment we understand that Islam is the religion of submission, instead of the religion of peace, we finally start to see the logic behind many of its seemingly illogical (to our Western way of thinking) and violent ways. Personally, I believe that transcending one’s self, rising above one’s narrow shell and natural inclinations while submitting to a deity’s will is the very purpose of any religion worthy of being called religion. I have no doubt that on its way to becoming civilized any society would have eventually figured basic ethics such as the prohibition against murder, the prohibition against stealing and so on. It stands to reason that if I want to live without constantly being in fear and looking over my shoulder every second and/or having to carry all my possessions with me (which might make me an even more appealing candidate for murder), certain rules must exist. So, eventually even without a deity to tell us such, mankind would have figured out the basic laws of coexistence. A deity, however, teaches us much more, much deeper things than mere coexistence.

For example, and there are myriad such examples, the Jewish Sages of the Talmud tell us that if one sees the donkey of his enemy has fallen under a heavy burden he must help it stand up. They base themselves on biblical passages to derive rules of conduct that are not immediately apparent. Frankly, a human being’s natural inclination would be say to say “Hey, why should I help him? he deserves it!” and so on. By submitting oneself to the Almighty’s will, the individual refines him/herself as a person and contributes to bring a little bit of peace between people. Any religion that preaches that kind of submission is actually contributing in a major way to the the spiritual wellbeing of that individual and those around him.

When a religion, however, derives its name from the word “submission” then suddenly it opens itself to much misrepresentation. IslamoFascists are not interested in peace, merely in submission. They believe that the whole planet has to submit to their idea of Allah and those not willing to submit must perish… now you are begin to understand some of the seeming irrationality of terror acts committed by creatures claiming to be Muslims.

In order to cower the world into submission, they have no compunctions about committing spectacular terror acts such as those of 9/11, such as the Madrid train bombings, and the list goes on, and on, and on. But the terror is not only directed at us infidels. The terror is even against their own when those who preach violence and the glory of death feel threatened by too much learning, too much thinking, too many things that might bring about a counter movement against those very thugs who use religion as an excuse for amassing power and wealth while working hard at creating a world caliphate according to their own warped ideas.

Let’s look, for example, at something that happened in the Gaza Strip this weekend, something that might seem irrational to us Westerners, something that hurts primarily the very people Hamas was supposed to bring a better life to:

Bomb attack damages school near Gaza City

JERUSALEM: About a dozen masked Palestinians bombed and set fire to the American International School in Beit Lahiya, north of Gaza City, before dawn on Saturday, causing extensive damage but no injuries.

The attackers, believed to be Islamic extremists, laid several explosive devices at the school. They destroyed the principle’s office and the cafeteria on the first floor of the two-story building.

The attack happened at around 5 in the morning, several hours before the teachers and students were due to arrive. Two night guards at the school said the militants tied their hands, then told them to leave the premises in order to save themselves. According to one of the guards, Atef al-Beheisi, the masked men told him: “We are the organization of Al Qaeda in Palestine and our swords will be directed at the throats of the infidels.” The second guard, who was at another entrance of the school, said the intruders identified themselves to him as the “Army of Islam.”

In recent months, a wave of bombings by suspected Islamic radicals has targeted Internet cafés, pharmacies, music stores and other recreational centers in the Gaza Strip. Last weekend, an explosion damaged a Christian bookstore in Gaza city; on Wednesday, a bomb was placed under the car of the manageress of an elegant, Western-style restaurant there, damaging the vehicle and the restaurant’s façade.

The “militants” (they are always militants, never terrorists. Political correctness is so incorrect!) were intent in destroying any school, any “internet cafés, pharmacies, music stores,” anything that might afford even the slightest glimpse of enlightenment, the slightest glimpse of the world outside. But… pharmacies?!? By destroying pharmacies, anyone sick or wounded then becomes dependent on the militants terrorists own medical services, where available, thereby making its victims also its dependents.

The American International School in Gaza was established as a local private enterprise and opened its doors shortly before the outbreak of the second intifada in September 2000. It has no formal connection with the American government but promotes American-style education and received $160,000 this year from the U.S. State Department to fund scholarships for needy students, according to Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, a spokeswoman at the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.

Schweitzer-Bluhm noted that other private Palestinian schools in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have received American funding through Usaid, but she said that the State Department had maintained a direct relationship with the American School in Gaza because the education it provides “is something we want to support.”

The school, which charges $2,000 to $4,000 in annual fees, is well beyond the means of most Gazans, and has not been profitable as a result. Board members have recently been discussing the possibility of handing over the school to an international organization, like the Quaker Religious Society of Friends, school officials said.

There are 150 students currently enrolled at the school, and a teaching staff of 30, all local Palestinians. The last foreign members of staff left about a year ago because of the deteriorating security situation in Gaza. The school’s former Dutch principal and his Australian deputy were briefly kidnapped by Palestinian gunmen in December 2005, and in March 2006, two Australian teachers were abducted, before being released unharmed.

Such acts seem to baffle even the Palestinians in their quest for a better life, in their quest for education, in their quest for a better future, as Voice of America reports

Palestinian officials condemned the bombing. Fawzi Barhoum is a spokesman for the Islamic militant group Hamas, the senior partner in a coalition government.

“This is a type of violence and terrorism against the Palestinian people and against our foundation[s],” he said.

The attack underscores the growing lawlessness in Gaza since Israel pulled out of the territory in August 2005. Palestinian analyst Wadia Abu Nasser says things took a turn for the worse after Hamas took power a year ago."We are witnessing a kind of unrest, a lack of security in Gaza, and I believe Hamas doesn’t really bring any security, neither stability, to the population,” he said.

“We are witnessing a kind of unrest, a lack of security in Gaza, and I believe Hamas doesn’t really bring any security, neither stability, to the population,” he said.

Another sign of the deteriorating security situation is the kidnapping of BBC TV journalist Alan Johnston. To mark the 40th day of his captivity, the group Reporters Without Borders demanded that Palestinian leaders step up their efforts to win his release.

It is precisely this lawlessness that IslamoFascists want to create, so that they can step in as they once did in Somalia, so that they can provide a strong armed security while destroying any semblance of freedom and its institutions.

Once we understand the utter rejection of anything remotely connected to the West, we can easily understand last murderous week’s attack on a Bible printing company in Turkey, we can explain the intimidation and murder of those teaching girls in Afghanistan or Malaysia, or the murder of Christian schoolgirls in Thailand.

IslamoFascists only have one goal in mind, that goal is simply total submission to what they claim as Allah’s will. Unless we in the West are ready to be “submitted,” our choice is clear. We must vigorously fight the attempts at forced submission with decisive force so that the would be submitters promptly meet their 72 houries, each, before we in the West become the prey these vultures joyfully feast on.

The West is better armed, better financed and it operates with a modern mindset, it would seem such a recipe will grant us victory without trying too hard… that, however, is a very grave misconception. Though we may be numerically and technologically superior to the enemy, we lack the one element they show a tremendous abundance of… cohesiveness. We also seem to lack the will to defend our values, our history, our lifestyle, our civilization. Why? Because we long ago lost most of our spiritual values. Today, the West pursues artificialness and self gratification. The choices are clear… We can continue to ignore IslamoFascism’s advance and be “submitted” or murdered by it. Or we wake up, stand together and save the world by crashing this growing scourge of mankind.

The New York Times, in its inimitable style, in an article entitled, Israel and Palestinians trade fire in Gaza and West Bank adds:

Several hours after Saturday’s attack, the current principal, Ribhi Salem, said: “I am still in a state of shock. How could any Palestinian think it is in the Palestinian interest to carry out such a barbaric act?”

Dr. Eyad Sarraj, a well-known psychiatrist in Gaza and the chairman of the board of the school, said: “This is a clear attack against our country. It is designed to make everybody afraid. This school offers a distinguished education, but they want the students to be illiterate. This is against Islam.”

Though privately run, the school falls under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority Education Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas. The United States defines Hamas as a terrorist organization and refuses to deal with the Hamas ministers in the Palestinian government.

But the Palestinian deputy minister of education, Muhammad Abu Shkeir, said in a telephone interview from Gaza that his ministry “cooperates fully with the American School, as with all international institutions.”

The article’s title refers only to the top three lines of the article only. The rest of this article (and it’s not a short one) talks about the destroyed school. I suppose that the NYT is trying to blame this senseless act on Israel or at least create a perception that the Zionist Entity is really to blame for the lawlessness rampant in Gaza… This in spite of the quote on VOA by a Palestinian analyst: “Palestinian analyst Wadia Abu Nasser says things took a turn for the worse after Hamas took power a year ago.‘We are witnessing a kind of unrest, a lack of security in Gaza, and I believe Hamas doesn’t really bring any security, neither stability, to the population,” he said. We are witnessing a kind of unrest, a lack of security in Gaza, and I believe Hamas doesn’t really bring any security, neither stability, to the population,’ he said.

But folks, innuendo and half truth are only part of the NYT’s insidiousness, notice the subtle and underhanded way they give credit to Hamas, while just as subtly blaming the US:”Though privately run, the school falls under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority Education Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas. The United States defines Hamas as a terrorist organization and refuses to deal with the Hamas ministers in the Palestinian government.

But the Palestinian deputy minister of education, Muhammad Abu Shkeir, said in a telephone interview from Gaza that his ministry ‘cooperates fully with the American School, as with all international institutions.’

None of the great empires of history, none of the civilizations of yore, fell to the sword of an enemy until its core, until its will to survive had rotted away because of the enemy within. In the case of the NYT, it is quite obvious their sympathies do not lie on America’s side. They’ve amply demonstrated it over the last few years. It is also just as obvious who is buttering their bread…

The VT Massacre and What it Means to the War on Terror

From Brigitte Gabriel:

The VT Massacre and What it Means to the War on Terror
By Emilio Karim Dabul

This past Monday was, unfortunately, the perfect weather scenario for the horrible series of murders that took place at Virginia Tech: endless gray and rain. The day was funereal before the first shots rang out. But before I cast more darkness on a week that has started out worse for the US than any other since 9/11, let me say out front that there's something we can learn here if we're only willing. Namely, that far from being prepared for the next 9/11, the 32 students slain this week in a matter of 20 minutes by one crazed individual should prove beyond any doubt that we have a lot more work to do to come up to speed to protect ourselves against terrorism. If we can learn that lesson now rather than later, then we may have a chance to actually shield ourselves against much greater catastrophe when the terrorists strike again.

You can be certain that Al Qaeda has taken note of what happened Monday and has filed the information for future reference. Think of how many more students would have died if there had been a group of homicide bombers and other armed individuals who had assaulted the campus. 9/11 happened because we did not properly consider or prepare for the unthinkable. And Monday at Virginia Tech took place because we do not like to think of our college campuses, or our amusement parks, malls, and grade schools, as launching pads for massacres. Well, we need to. We're way past the point of having to debate the obvious. America has changed forever since those hijacked planes crashed against the Towers, and our security measures need to be able to meet the threats posed in this new era.

Let me put it more simply: there is no reason in the post 9/11 world that 32 students should have died Monday. Had the school been wired with high tech surveillance from end to end, text messages sent out en masse to students' cell phones after the first shootings, armed guards immediately appeared, and the campus locked down right away, lives could have been saved. What preparation had the school done in advance of this attack to prepare students, faculty, and campus police to respond appropriately? And moreover, tell me, citizens of New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc., do you know the evacuation plans and procedures you need to follow in the event your city's hit by a dirty bomb, a chemical attack, or, God forbid, an actual nuke? No, I didn't think so. I'm a New Yorker and I don't have a clue what I'm supposed to do if and when that day happens. Why? Because for all our talk about remaining steadfast in the face of terrorism, it's largely been business as usual since 9/11.

Well, here's the problem. If we don't properly prepare for the next inevitable terrorist strike, the country may come to a standstill, business wise and otherwise, that could make 9/11's aftereffects look mild indeed. Follow the continuum here. 2001 was the follow-up from the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. You can be certain that with the next attack they will top by far what happened a little over five years ago. That's their pattern. It's not a question of when, but how, and they are working on that as I write these words.

We must think of the maniac on Monday as the advance guard from a much greater Army, poised to destroy us if we let them. But we owe our children this much: no retreat and no surrender from the war in front of us, and no excuses from our government or ourselves not to be prepared.

Jihadist video shows boy beheading man

Hot off the presses: Sick, twisted, and disgusting!

So whats new?

KILI FAQIRAN, Pakistan - The boy with the knife looks barely 12. In a high-pitched voice, he denounces the bound, blindfolded man before him as an American spy. Then he hacks off the captive's head to cries of "God is great!" and hoists it in triumph by the hair.

A video circulating in Pakistan records the grisly death of Ghulam Nabi, a Pakistani militant accused of betraying a top Taliban official who was killed in a December airstrike in
Afghanistan.

An Associated Press reporter confirmed Nabi's identity by visiting his family in Kili Faqiran, their remote village in southwestern Pakistan.

The video, which was obtained by AP Television News in the border city of Peshawar on Tuesday, appears authentic and is unprecedented in jihadist propaganda because of the youth of the executioner.

Captions mention Mullah Dadullah, the Taliban's current top commander in southern Afghanistan, although he does not appear in the video. The soundtrack features songs praising Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar and "Sheikh Osama" — an apparent reference to
Osama bin Laden, who is suspected of hiding along the Afghan-Pakistan border.

The footage shows Nabi making what is described as a confession, being blindfolded with a checkered scarf.

"He is an American spy. Those who do this kind of thing will get this kind of fate," says his baby-faced executioner, who is not identified.

A continuous 2 1/2-minute shot then shows the victim lying on his side on a patch of rubble-strewn ground. A man holds Nabi by his beard while the boy, wearing a camouflage military jacket and oversized white sneakers, cuts into the throat. Other men and boys call out "Allahu akbar!" — "God is great!" — as blood spurts from the wound.

The film, overlain with jihadi songs, then shows the boy hacking and slashing at the man's neck until the head is severed.

A Pashto-language voiceover in the video identifies Nabi and his home village of Kili Faqiran in Baluchistan province, which lies about two hours' drive from the Afghan border.

A reporter went to the village, and Nabi's distraught and angry father, Ghulam Sakhi, confirmed his son's identity from a still picture that AP made from the footage. He said neighbors had told him the video is available at the village bazaar, but he had no wish to see it.

Sakhi said his son had been a loyal Taliban member who fought in Afghanistan and sheltered the hard-line Afghan group's leaders in the family's mud-walled compound.

He blames the Taliban and wants to avenge his son's death.

"The Taliban are not mujahedeen. They are not fighting for the cause of Islam," the 70-year-old said. "If I got my hands on them I would kill them and even tear their flesh with my own teeth."

Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, who claims to speak for the Taliban, told AP he had no information about Nabi or the video. None of the group's commanders he contacted could confirm the execution, he said.

The method of Nabi's death was not unusual for Pakistan's lawless tribal regions. Suspected informers are regularly found beheaded and dumped along the side of the road in the lawless, mountainous regions along the Afghan-Pakistani border where al-Qaida and Taliban militants find sanctuary.

But such al-Qaida-style killings are rarely featured in the Taliban's increasingly frequent propaganda videos. The use of a child to conduct the beheading stands out even among those filmed by militants in
Iraq.

"This is outright barbarism," Iqbal Haider, secretary-general of the independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, said after viewing the video. "Whosoever has committed this, whether they are Taliban or anybody else or any Afghan or al-Qaida or anybody, they are enemy No. 1 of the Muslims."

The video accuses Nabi of responsibility for a U.S. airstrike that killed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani, who was regarded as one of the top three associates of Omar, the Taliban supreme leader. He was hit while traveling by car in Afghanistan's Helmand province Dec. 19.

Osmani was the highest-ranking Taliban leader to die since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan that ousted the hard-line regime in late 2001 for refusing to hand over bin Laden following the Sept. 11 terror attack on the United States.

The U.S. military said at the time that Osmani's death was a serious blow to militant operations, and
NATO commanders said this week that a feared spring offensive had yet to materialize.

Sakhi, a retired mosque preacher with a long gray beard, spoke unashamedly of his son's Taliban affiliation and wept twice during an interview in his simple home at the foot of a mountain valley in Baluchistan province.

He said Nabi fought against the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance that helped U.S. forces to victory in Afghanistan.

After returning to Pakistan, Nabi ran a religious school in the Baluchistan capital of Quetta and had regularly sheltered both Osmani and Dadullah at the family compound, the father said.

He said Nabi also bought weapons for Taliban fighters and organized medical treatment for those injured during fighting in Afghanistan.

Some days after Osmani's death, Nabi went to Peshawar and then to Wana, a tribal town considered a militant stronghold, to collect money from Taliban officials to buy guns and food for militants in Afghanistan, Sakhi said.

He said his son called at the end of January to reveal that a tribal council had sentenced him to death on charges of tipping off U.S. forces about Osmani's movements, despite his denials.

His son passed the phone to Dadullah, but the militant leader ignored his pleas for clemency, Sakhi said.

"I talked to him and said you visited us and my son was a close friend so why are you going to hang him? He just said, 'How are you?', and switched off the phone," Sakhi said.

"They are the enemies of Islam," he said of the Taliban. "They are behaving like savages."

Sam Zarifi, Asia research director for Human Rights Watch, said the use of a child to commit such an act constituted a war crime and was a "new low" in the conflict in Afghanistan.

He noted the Taliban had teenage combatants but they were not recruited on a large scale because of the availability of adult fighters. He said he had seen children in the background of some jihadist videos but none in which they were directly involved in violence.

"I don't know why they would do this," Zarifi said. "The Taliban have to some extent tried to play to the public in Afghanistan and have not engaged in the complete sowing of mayhem that we have seen in Iraq. But this kind of act is really egregious. It's off the charts."

Can a Muslim Be Ecumenical?

The answer is no.

During the solemn convocation for the Virginia Tech victims yesterday the people of the united states were treated to another occasion to be offended by the muslim mindset of conquest and anti-assimilation into the culture.

What do I mean? The religious traditions represented there were, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish and Muslim. The Muslim spoke first and invoked "Allah" in his speech. That is to be expected but I was offended nonetheless. In a service which is supposed to be ecumenical all other parties that believe in God used the English word "God" to generically designate the deity. Like the Higher Power of Alcoholics Anonymous, "God" is easy to swallow, covering nearly every idea of the Creator. "Allah", however, has too much baggage attached to it, in my view, to be mentioned at all. A god who is associated with violence should not be invoked at the memorial to victims of a violent and terroristic crime. The Imam who spoke should have been afforded what most religious are in the public arena...the right to speak without naming names...

Ritual-washing area may be only the beginning

From Brigitte Gabriel:

Ritual-washing area for Muslims at MCTC may be only the beginning

By Katherine Kersten,

Star Tribune

Last week, I wrote about Minneapolis Community and TechnicalCollege, which is planning to install facilities to help Muslim students perform ritual washing before daily prayers. It's a simple matter of extending "hospitality" to newcomers, says President Phil Davis -- no different than providing a fish option in the college cafeteria for Christian students during Lent.

MCTC is apparently the first public institution in Minnesota to enter this unfamiliar territory. Where is it looking for guidance?

Dianna Cusick, MCTC's director of legal affairs, is overseeing the project. She referred me to the Muslim Accommodations Task Force, whose website she is using as a primary resource (www.startribune.com/2617). "They've done all the research," she said.

On the site, I found information about the handful of public colleges that have "wudu," or ritual bathing, facilities.

But I also discovered something more important for colleges seeking guidance on "accommodations": Projects like MCTC's are likely to be the first step in a long process.

The task force's eventual objectives on American campuses include the following, according to the website: permanent Muslim prayer spaces, ritual washing facilities, separate food and housing for Muslim students, separate hours at athletic facilities for Muslim women, paid imams or religious counselors, and campus observance of Muslim holidays. The task force is already hailing "pioneering" successes. At SyracuseUniversity in New York, for example, "Eid al Fitr is now an official university holiday," says an article featured on the website. "The entire university campus shuts down to mark the end of Ramadan." At HenryFordCommunity College in Dearborn, Mich., "halal" food -- ritually slaughtered and permissible under Islamic law -- is marked by green stickers in the cafeteria and "staff are well-trained in handling practices."

At GeorgetownUniversity, Muslim women can live apart in housing that enables them to "sleep in an Islamic setting," as the website puts it. According to a student at the time the policy was adopted, the university housing office initially opposed the idea, on grounds that all freshman should have the experience of "living in dorms and dealing with different kinds of people." That might sound appealing, Muslim students told a reporter in an article featured on the website. But in their view, the reporter wrote, "learning to live with 'different kinds of people' " actually "causes more harm than good" for Muslims, because it requires them to live in an environment that "distracts them from their desire to become better Muslims, and even draw[s] weaker Muslims away from Islam."

The task force isn't operated by overly enthusiastic college students. Its professional staff, based in the Washington, D.C., area, includes coordinators who provide legal advice, teach students to lobby, write letters on their behalf, and help them overcome "obstacles" such as college administrators' concerns about violating the separation of church and state.

The Muslim Accommodations Task Force is a project of the Muslim Student Association of the U.S. and Canada. MSA's mission is to enable Muslims here "to practice Islam as a complete way of life," and its "main goal" is "spreading Islam," according to its website. The association calls itself the "landmark Muslim organization in North America," and says it has chapters on 600 campuses.

On MSA's website (www.msa-national.org), the sort of inclusive language used by the Muslim Accommodations Task Force gives way to hard-hitting advice for insiders. One downloadable publication --"Your Chapter's Guide to Campus Activism" -- describes how activists can advance political positions such as "restoring justice within the Palestinian territories," and opposition to the Patriot Act and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The cover features a student with a megaphone, and the slogan "Speak Out! Stand Up! Say It Loud!"

MSA views itself as America's moral and political vanguard. "As Muslims, we are a nation elected by God to lead humanity," the guide announces. On campus, that means initiating "mass mobilization" through "direct action campaigns" à la the 1960s, when students were "itching to fight" for change.

The guide explains how Muslim student groups can obtain funding, identify coalition partners and "bodies of power" on campus, work within student government, and use the media. "Marches, rallies and protests on campus" can "generate massive amounts of exposure for your MSA and its cause," it advises.

In all these endeavors, however, establishing credibility is vital to success, the guide emphasizes. Activists must "take full advantage of the open-minded environment" on campus, and skillfully employ the language of patriotism and rights. "[M]obilization commences the moment you speak in a language that resonates with your audience," the guide adds.

Thus, activists should take care to position themselves as mainstream Americans. "Make use of terminology like 'our country,' 'our security,' and 'we, the American people,' " the guide suggests. "Unless you identify with the people, you will never gain the legitimacy to criticize state policies," though "identifying yourself as an American" will not necessarily preclude criticism.

Activists should also frame their objectives in language that Americans embrace. "Most Americans identify with concepts such as 'justice,' 'self-determination,' 'human rights' and 'democracy,' " the guide explains. "These terms will be constructive when delivering your message, regardless of the issue."

For example, if you want to bring a speaker to campus to discuss the importance of hijab (Muslim women's headwear or covering), you will be "more effective" if you broaden the topic to "women's rights." Is this where MCTC is headed? Or is nothing more dramatic going on there than fish on Friday?

Conversion by the Sword

Christians in Iraq forced to choose between Islam or their lives.

From AINA:
An unidentified Islamic group has been threatening the Christian Assyrians (also known as Chaldeans and Syriacs) in the Dora district of Baghdad, a traditionally Assyrian area. The Islamic group issued an ultimatum yesterday to Assyrian families, telling them to leave Christianity and convert to Islam within 24 hours or they would all be killed. The Islamic group also issued a fatwa (a religious edict) to confiscate the property of all Christians, to force Assyrian women to veil themselves, to forbid genuflection (making the sign of the Cross) and the wearing of the Cross.

Earlier the same Islamic group forcefully removed the Cross from the churches of St. John and St. George. An affiliated Islamic group in Northern Iraq occupied the Assyrian monastery of Raban Hormuz.

The religion of peace insists that "forced conversions" are just a myth; as stated by Dr. Sharif Mohammed of thetruereligion.org:
Among the most widely believed myths about Islam in the West today is the myth of forcible conversion to Islam.

Many Westerners do believe that Islam is so widespread in the world today simply because of a "holy campaign of terror" carried out by the early Muslims to convert non-Muslims to Islam. Non-Muslims were offered the freedom to choose either Islam or death.

He also states:
[...] we should ask ourselves first, before we are asked by anyone else, what is the truth? Did Muslims really force others to convert to Islam? Is there any evidence for consistent forcible conversion throughout Islamic history? As a matter of fact, there is no such evidence anywhere in the history of Islam.

No evidence anywhere in history of Islam....

This last sentence does not match reality, there are hundreds of stories from Islamic country after Islamic country of forced conversions. The Iraqi story of Christian Assyrians at the top of this post is only one example. Here are a few more.

A Forced conversion to Islam fatal for Christian boy, A pakistani Christian boy was kidnapped and tortured for 5 days before being taken to a police station by his captors. The captors tried to cover up their crime with allegations that the boy was trying to steal a water pump. By the time the police sought medical attention it was too late to save this young man.

How about the cases of Pakistani Hindu girls forced to convert to Islam where Hindu girls are kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam and then married off to Muslim men in Pakistan.

So no one can accuse me of picking on Pakistan, let's add Steve Centanni and photographer Olaf Wiig to the list of "mythological" forced conversions. The journalists from the American Fox News channel were freed unharmed in Gaza after being forced at gunpoint to convert to Islam at the end of a two-week kidnapping ordeal. We have the video of this one, along with statement immediately following their release:

The truth about Islam is that believers are commanded to fight the infidels until they are converted to Islam or under subjugation to Muslims or DEAD.

If we look at versus in the Koran and the Hadith we find that indeed that Islam expects the believer to fight the non-believer and compel conversion.

Sura (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

Sura (9:11) - "But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion"

Sura (2:193) - "And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion be only for Allah. But if they desist, then let there be no hostility except against wrong-doers."
and the Hadith:
Muslim (1:33) The Messenger of Allah said: "I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah..."

Muslim (19:4294) - "When you meet your enemies who are polytheists [Christians...], invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them ... If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them"

Bukhari (8:387) - "Allah's Apostle said, 'I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally and their reckoning will be with Allah.'"

The point is the real myth is the mistaken belief that no "forced conversions" can be found anywhere in the history of Islam; I say surely there is, was and will continue to be as long as the religion of peace exists.

Iran says could reveal new "nuclear achievements"

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spews forth more of the same:

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran will announce unspecified new "nuclear achievements" if the United Nations takes fresh steps against it over its disputed atomic program,
The announcement prompted the United States to say it was likely the U.N. Security Council would impose further penalties against Tehran.

In Iran's first public reaction to the U.S. warning, Ahmadinejad had earlier accused world powers of using international organizations like the U.N. for their own ends and said Iran would not give up its right to nuclear technology.

"The Iranian nation will stand up for its legal right and will not retreat even one iota to preserve its nuclear right," Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech to a rally in the central Iranian city of Shiraz.

The crowd chanted "Death to America," and "Nuclear technology is our right." Click to read more...

What new "Nuclear Achievements" can there be besides mutant scientists or mushroom clouds?

College Promotes Islamic Practices, Prohibits Christian Traditions

From Brigitte Gabriel:

Is college using a double standard on 'entanglement' with religion?

By Katherine Kersten

Cultural clashes involving Islam have recently made headlines in Minnesota. At the airport, some Muslim taxi drivers refuse to transport passengers carrying alcohol; at Target stores, some Muslim cashiers won't scan pork products. Now there's a new point of friction: Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

Its officials say the college, a public institution, has a strict policy of not promoting religion or favoring one religion over another. "The Constitution prevents us from doing this in any form," says Dianna Cusick, director of legal affairs.
But that seems to depend on your religion.

Where Christianity is concerned, the college goes to great lengths to avoid any hint of what the courts call "entanglement" or support of the church. Yet the college is planning to install facilities for Muslims to use in preparing for daily prayers, an apparent first at a public institution in Minnesota.

Separation of church and state is clearest at the college during the Christmas season. A memo from Cusick and President Phil Davis, dated Nov. 28, 2006, exhorted supervisors to banish any public display of holiday cheer: "As we head into the holiday season ... "all public offices and areas should refrain from displays that may represent to our students, employees or the public that the college is promoting any particular religion." Departments considering sending out holiday cards, the memo added, should avoid cards "that appear to promote any particular religious holiday."

Last year, college authorities caught one rule-breaker red-handed. A coffee cart that sells drinks and snacks played holiday music "tied to Christmas," and "complaints and concerns" were raised, according to a faculty e-mail. College authorities quickly quashed the practice.

They appear to take a very different attitude toward Islam. Welcome and accommodation are the order of the day for the college's more than 500 Muslim students. The college has worked with local Muslim leaders to ensure that these students' prayer needs and concerns are adequately addressed, Davis told me.

Muslim prayer is an increasingly controversial issue. Many Muslim students use restroom sinks to wash their feet before prayer. Other students have complained, and one Muslim student fell and injured herself while lifting her foot out of a sink.

Some local Muslim leaders have advised the college staff that washing is not a required practice for students under the circumstances, according to Davis. Nevertheless, he says, he wants to facilitate it for interested students. "It's like when someone comes to your home, you want to be hospitable," Davis told me. "We have new members in our community coming here; we want to be hospitable."

So the college is making plans to use taxpayer funds to install facilities for ritual foot-washing. Staff members are researching options, and a school official will visit a community college in Illinois to view such facilities while attending a conference nearby. College facilities staff members are expected to present a proposal this spring.

In Davis' view, the foot-washing plan does not constitute promotion or support of religion. "The foot-washing facilities are not about religion, they are about customer service and public safety," he says. He sees no significant difference between using public funds to construct prayer-related facilities for Muslim students and the cafeteria's provision of a fish option for Christian students during Lent.

College officials claim that the restrictions on Christmas displays apply to employees who are state agents, and so are subject to more restrictions, while students are free to express their religious beliefs.

But where the Muslim prayer facilities are concerned, college authorities themselves are consulting with religious leaders, researching other schools, and using taxpayer money to make improvements to facilitate one group's prayer.

Issues surrounding the intersection of church and state and religious accommodation are complex. But the college's treatment of Christianity and Islam seems to reflect a double standard.

It's hard to imagine the college researching and paying for special modifications to the college to facilitate Christian rituals. And the "safety" justification? Imagine if a particularly strict group of Christian students found it necessary to sometimes baptize others in the restroom sinks. Would the school build them a baptism basin because a student hit his head on a sink?

Katherine Kersten . kkersten@startribune.com

Having lived in Minneapolis for some time, I'm not surprised by the liberal accomodation to the mostly Somali Muslim population. But, really, fish at lent and ritual footwashing fountains are not even in the same ballpark.
