Radical Islam, Europe and More

Extremist Islam is very vocal throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and other places, in spite of not being mainstream Islam. It also attracts a fair amount of converts, what is the attraction? Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty featured the following interview on the subject:

Islam: Radicalism In Europe Reflects ‘Spiritual Void’

Germany - Federal policemen lead off an alleged terror suspect (2-R) at the Federal Supreme Court (BGH) in Karlsruhe, 05Sep2007
What makes converts to Islam, such as two of the suspects recently arrested in Germany, so susceptible to radicalism?
(epa)

September 16, 2007 (RFE/RL) — The recent arrest in Vienna of three alleged Al-Qaeda sympathizers — all Austrian citizens — has again raised concerns across Europe about the threat posed by homegrown Islamic extremists.

Edwin Bakker, head of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations and an expert on the subject, spoke with RFE/RL correspondent Valentinas Mite about the threat of Islamist terrorism in Europe and about why some Europeans choose to convert to radical Islam.

RFE/RL: There are millions of Muslims in Europe who have either migrated to the continent or are the children of earlier migrants. In their overwhelming majority, they have no connection to extremism. But a few appear to be turning to radical brands of Islam. Who are they?

Edwin Bakker: [They are] youngsters who are attracted to a very strict interpretation of Islam, a very militant Islam, partly as a consequence of discrimination, their backward socioeconomic position, but most of all by their search for identity. They are in Europe. They are very much integrated — they speak Dutch, Danish, German or whatever [is] the language of their country, but they are not accepted as Dutch, Danish, German, etc. So many of them are seeking a new identity as being a Muslim, not a Moroccan, not a Turk or whatever. They go and look for material on the Internet and they find this very radical and very appealing Salafi stream of Islam, which is very strict, very extreme.

RFE/RL: The problem of religious radicalism does not seem to exist among other immigrant groups, like the Chinese or Vietnamese communities. What makes people with Islamic roots potentially more radical than other migrants?

Bakker: There is this idea in the air, there is this hype, there is this 9/11 appeal to youngsters; this ideology is there. And it is not the case for China. If you are Chinese in Europe, you still can be proud to be from China. China does not have this perception [that a] crusade [is being waged] against China or this perception of a fight. These Muslims identify themselves as Muslims and then they identify themselves as victims of aggression against Muslims, for instance in Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq. So this identity is linked to identifying with [perceived] fights against Islam.

RFE/RL: But Iranians living in Europe, who are Muslims, seem to integrate well in European society and generally have not isolated themselves as much as people coming from the Middle East or Pakistan. Why is there such a difference?

Bakker: The Iranians who came to Europe are mostly highly educated. So there are many professors, doctors among them. And that is how they integrated better. They integrated into their new communities, communities of scholars, communities [of other professionals], and so on. And their numbers are a little bit smaller so they cannot organize themselves in such close-knit communities. There is also a big difference between Iranians and other [Muslims in Europe], Moroccans and Turks, for example. Most Moroccans [although they live] in Europe [tend to] marry somebody from their [home] village. Iranians marry either Iranians who also fled to Europe or they marry local [Europeans].

RFE/RL: How can you explain the fact that some Europeans by origin are converting to radical brands of militant Islam? Can we speak about some tendencies in this case?

Bakker: We have good contacts with, for instance, local police working in troublesome neighborhoods [in the Netherlands], so they see the same problem among Muslims but also among non-Muslims. This is a sense of [lack] of identity, purpose [in life] — these kind of things. I think that this holds [true] for many Western European countries.

There are also quite a number of women, actually, who convert to Islam. It’s of course something new. It is an underdog religion, so it has an appeal to some people, who are attracted by such a religion, that is so much bashed and therefore perhaps more interesting to them.

RFE/RL: What trends in Islam do converts usually choose?

Bakker: I studied [the cases] of all those [Muslims] who have been arrested and have been convicted of terrorism in Europe and about 5 or 6 percent are converts. Actually, many groups have at least one or two converts among them. In general, there is a problem with converts in that they want to overcompensate for the fact that they are new to a community. They want to be “holier than the pope.” And this is a general phenomenon with radicals or with converts.

RFE/RL: But radicals make up only a very small part of all Muslims. Why don’t more European converts choose mainstream Islam?

Bakker: Because they are new to the religion, they are very susceptible to very radical interpretations. They don’t know the other interpretations. So if you are new to Islam, you are not familiar with the fact that Islam is a very complicated religion, that it has a lot of different approaches. And if you are in the hands of the Salafi — this very fundamental, traditional, puritan group — you have no checks and balances, and there is nobody who would tell you, “But that’s not true.” So you are falling into the hands of the most radical views or radical preachers. So being new to religion also does not give you the mind-set and the knowledge to resist very extreme views.

Disenchantment, low self esteem, and vulnerability are the perfect personality ingredients that Salafists look for in potential converts. By bringing these individuals into a highly disciplined environment, by forcing strict rules of conduct upon those who heretofore had little purpose to their lives, these individuals are given a much craved for sense of belonging and self worth. Such recruits then become as, or more, fanatical than their mentors. What do they get for their troubles? Most are considered fully expendable by the extremists they’ve joined, mere instruments in the furtherance of the group’s agenda. CNN has an article on that very expendability, as evidenced in the case of an idealistic foreign fighter for Al-Qaeda in Iraq:

Failed suicide bomber turns on al Qaeda

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Ahmad al Shayea is the rarest of truck bombers — he survived his suicide mission in Iraq even though the blast from his bomb was strong enough to kill 12 bystanders.

Ahmad al Shayea survived his truck bomb attack, but not without scarring to his face and hands.

Al Shayea, who was disfigured during the attack, claims al Qaeda tricked him into becoming a bomber by asking him to deliver a tanker truck, which they had rigged with a bomb.

“They told me to take it to an address in Baghdad. As soon as I got there the truck exploded,” said the native of Saudi Arabia. He survived by jumping out of the truck.

Al Shayea renounced terrorism and returned to Saudi Arabia, where he works to convince would-be insurgents and terrorists to give up their deadly ways.

“I think God took me out of death to show others what can happen,” he told CNN. “If you join al Qaeda, they will use you, and maybe you will die.” Video Hear why al Shayea turned his back on al Qaeda »

Al Qaeda propaganda videos glorify so-called foreign fighters in Iraq like al Shayea. It has recruited them from countries all across the Middle East.

Some Iraqi officials say more Saudis than any other nationality have responded to al Qaeda’s call. Saudi officials and the U.S. military deny that claim. But Saudi sources do admit that more than 800 young Saudis have gone to Iraq to fight. That’s far more than the Saudi government has acknowledged until now.

Since 9/11, when 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis, the oil rich kingdom has been accused of spreading radicalism. It’s a claim that stings this longtime U.S. ally, which also finds itself in al Qaeda’s cross hairs.

So now, Saudi officials say they are escalating their fight against homegrown al Qaeda militants. Former insurgents and terrorists like al Shayea are their chief weapon in the battle for the hearts and minds of young Saudis.

“The reality behind it is the religious misunderstanding of Islam, so we have to correct the ideas,” said Dr. Turki Al-Otayan, a psychologist.

Al Shayea and hundreds of other Saudis who were aligned with terrorists are being re-educated in prisons and rehabilitation centers. They are taught that al Qaeda’s emphasis on a violent approach to Islam is wrong.

The program offers early release from prison. It’s available only to captured jihadis who demonstrate a willingness to change over the course of repeated interviews with specialists. Al Shayea said he was questioned by security forces, then clerics, then psychologists.

“They looked at my mood, listened to me. They were nice,” he adds.

Al-Otayan said the review is thorough.

“We make sure he understands dialogue. We make sure he is not just lying. So it is not an easy job I can assure you,” he said.

The Saudi government says more than 1,000 former al Qaeda recruits have been through the program. Seven hundred of them are now free. Critics, mainly from the country’s security forces, fear mistakes could allow some al Qaeda fighters back on the street.

A native of Saudi Arabia, al Shayea was just 19 when he went to Iraq to fight for al Qaeda against American forces. He was angered, he said, by scenes of U.S. troops killings his fellow Muslims.

“I went to Iraq with Saudi men because jihad is a duty for every Muslim,” he said. “I went to Iraq to fight the jihad and kill Americans.”

He was hoping to take up arms against Americans, but said he never envisioned himself as a suicide bomber. After his truck bomb exploded, al Shayea was captured and paraded on Iraqi TV. Burned and bandaged, he was blamed for the death of 12 bystanders. He confessed.

Iraqi security officials deported him to Saudi Arabia. Today, with the backing of the Saudi government, al Shayea gets his anti-al Qaeda message out on fliers that include pictures of him before and after his bombing. He has become the anti-Al Qaeda example.

“I learned my lesson, and others will learn as well,” he said.

It is one thing to take someone, however misguided, who is ready and willing to become a suicide bomber and another very different one to dupe someone into becoming a suicide bomber. The manipulation of the individual is repulsive in both cases! To take an unwitting recruit and send him to a certain death and then claim and praise him as someone who “willingly” gave his life for Allah, shows that these extremists, these hate filled barbarians, not only have contempt for the life of their target(s), but for the life of their own recruits as well. Such cynicism, such disregard for human life, is totally incompatible with the mores of the Western world and yet The Brussels Journal tells us:

The EU Wants to Increase Muslim Immigration and Internet Censorship

A few months ago, the EU’s Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini worried about what to do with illegal immigration. To no-one’s surprise, he appears to have settled for surrendering and making it legal. The skilled glossocrat Frattini has already banned the use of the phrase Islamic terrorism: “You cannot use the term ‘Islamic terrorism,’” he insisted. “People who commit suicide attacks or criminal activities on behalf of religion, Islamic religion or other religion, they abuse the name of this religion.” He now thinks we shouldn’t use the word “immigration,” either, we should talk about “mobility.” Moreover, the “Asian” and “African” immigrants in this case generally come from the predominantly Muslim countries of North Africa and the Middle East, with some additional ones from Pakistan and similar nations. The EU has thus decided to flood Europe with tens of millions of Muslims, at the same time as peaceful Europeans demonstrating against the Islamization of Europe were brutally harassed by the police in the EU capital of Brussels.

In the future, the next time Islamic Jihad terrorists, I mean mobile workers enriching us with their presence when they are not abusing Islam, massacre scores of Europeans, the EU will assure us that they did everything in their power to stop this, and then they will continue facilitating the Islamization of the continent as if nothing has happened. The sensible option would be to point out that we had no Muslim terrorism in Western Europe before we had Muslim immigration. The key to ending Muslim terrorism should then logically be to end and preferably reverse Muslim immigration. The EU’s solution to this is to continue and even increase Muslim immigration while stopping web searches for the word “bomb.” The scary part is that once the infrastructure and principle of Internet censorship has become firmly established, it could be widened to include other kinds of illegal or unwanted activities, for instance “racist” and “xenophobic” websites criticizing Islam or mass immigration. And make no mistake about it: They will do so. They are probably planning this as we speak.

Notice how EU officials announce sweeping and potentially irreversible changes, proclaim that they are “inevitable” and that we may just as well adapt and get used to it. Resistance is futile. This is a lie and it always has been. The entire European Union has been created by such lies, repeated year after year. The gradual destruction of formerly independent nation states was carefully planned and executed, and the introduction of mass immigration from non-Western countries has been and still is a crucial component of this plan. Notice how Frattini specifically singles out Italy, which has so far received less immigration than many other countries in Western Europe, for attention. He also mentions Hungary, one of the newer EU members from the former Communist bloc, meaning that these countries, too, are now supposed to receive a dose of Multicultural diversity, whether they like it or not. The purpose of this immigration, not just between European countries but from Muslim and non-EU countries as well, is to dilute and destroy the established nation states and their culture, until the natives in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Britain, Spain etc. are too weak and demoralized to resist the creation of a pan-European superstate. Opposition to this policy should be banned as racism and hate speech.

Muslim immigration is destabilizing the entire European continent. Since the EU, which should more properly be called the anti-European Union, is facilitating this, the continued existence of the EU now constitutes a mortal threat to the very survival of European civilization. Every day the EU exists brings Europe one step closer to the grave.

EU told to accept 20m migrant workers
The Financial Times, 12 September

Europe must relax its immigration controls and open the door to an extra 20m workers during the next two decades, the European Union’s justice chief will say on Friday. Franco Frattini, justice commissioner, is to tell the bloc’s immigration ministers in Lisbon that the EU should stop erecting barriers and instead build safe pathways for Africans and Asians who risk their lives heading to the continent to find a job. “We have to look at immigration not as a threat but – when well-managed, and that is our new task – as an enrichment and as an inescapable phenomenon of today’s world,” he will say. He will suggest the word immigration should be dropped in favour of “mobility”. Germany, Italy and Hungary, with their ageing populations, are most in need of immigrants. The reforms could lead to a more than doubling of the EU’s foreign-born population by 2030.[…]

I guess that in the great humanitarian mind of EU’s Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini, the only way to solve a problem is to aggravate it! Such idiocy stems from arrogance, the elitist arrogance of Socialists who still persist in appeasing, appeasing, appeasing. Somehow they are so enamored of their bankrupt, disproved ideas that they believe that once these IslamoFascists experience enlightened Europe, they will change their ways and quickly integrate. It hasn’t happened, it will not happen!

These European Union politicians seem to ascribe to their followers a code of conduct as that exemplified by the Age of Chivalry in Medieval times, but without the religious or the honor aspect. It hardly worked then, the Arthurian legends notwithstanding, It is even more unlikely to work now especially with people who despise the West, with people to whom nothing is sacred as long as a despicable maneuver furthers their goal. But… this arrogant socialist elitism running the EU is blindly leading Europe and the West towards a bloody war whose outcome is dreadfully uncertain…

Required Reading for Defeatocrats

Yesterday, Kuwaits’s Arab Times, featured the following opinion by Ahmed Al-Jarallah, the paper’s Editor-in-Chief. For those who advocate we should leave Iraq immediately, for those who claim that cutting and running, before finishing the job, is in the world’s best interest the following written by an Arab newspaper editor, should give them cause to ponder:

Arabs fear a job half done

By Ahmed Al-Jarallah
Editor-in-Chief, the Arab Times

WHEN the United States sent its troops to the region, it had the support of logic. However, America currently finds itself in a crisis for sending its military forces to the land of lost opportunities. At least these are the theories being taught at Brookings and Hoover Institutes, from where several of the neo-conservative strategy experts graduated. This is why the US administration was aware of all the historic events and the nature of the changes in the region since the occupation of Palestine, weakening of the ties of European countries with Arabs and the birth of new ties with the US, effect of the Cold War on some Arab regimes, the era of mutiny, and revolution. Even some Arab leaders don’t know anything about these issues. All the detailed studies on these issues lead us to one important conclusion: the head of the snake is no longer al-Qaeda. Currently it is Iran, which wants to turn the region into a commonwealth that belongs to it.

Under such circumstances naturally the United States wants more information to investigate the new developments. This is why the US Secretary of State, Defense Secretary and several members of the US Congress are visiting the region frequently. This makes us wonder whether the US has yet to complete its diagnosis of the problem and whether it is ready to make a move to achieve its objective.

The first step the United States has to take is make an effort to reassure Arabs, especially its allies who are afraid they will be left alone if the US decides to end its campaign and withdraw its troops from the region. Arabs are afraid because they will be in direct confrontation with people whose minds are rigid and dream about victory in the “Mother of all Battles.”

Arabs are afraid because Saddam continued to torture Iraqis even after the liberation of Kuwait as the Americans didn’t end his regime before ending their military campaign. Moreover Somali militias went out of control as their operations were not ended for good and the Lebanese lived their worst nightmare in the mid Eighties when American and multi national troops left them alone. It is no wonder Arabs are afraid of facing similar nightmares. No one can deny the fact that the US administration committed some mistakes in Iraq. But such mistakes are natural and can be considered small compared to the achievement of liberating Iraq, which is tasting freedom and democracy after 35 years of suppression.

The first Gulf War ended without taking down Saddam Hussein. Thanks for this this is due entirely to traitor par excellence, James Baker, who because of his saving Hussein’s head twice is directly responsible for the current Iraq War and the death and torture of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and American soldiers… Were it not for his powerful friends he should be tried as a war criminal!). The result of leaving Saddam in place was a massacre of Shiites (who were at the time, very sympathetic to the Americans whom they viewed as would be liberators) and Kurds.

And yes, folks there have been grievous mistakes made in Iraq, whether by ineffective military commanders, whether by the civilians representing American administration. On the other hand, there is now a military commander, General Patreus, who rightly sized up the situation on the ground and is slowly but steadily producing the desired results. The possibility of successful results seem to scare to death the “cut and run” party in Congress! As Charles Krauthammer wrote, on this past July 13th:

“The key to turning [Anbar] around was the shift in allegiance by tribal sheiks. But the sheiks turned only after a prolonged offensive by American and Iraqi forces, starting in November, that put al-Qaeda groups on the run.”

– The New York Times, July 8

Finally, after four terribly long years, we know what works. Or what can work. A year ago, a confidential Marine intelligence report declared Anbar province (which comprises about a third of Iraq’s territory) lost to al-Qaeda. Now, in what the Times’s John Burns calls an ” astonishing success,” the tribal sheiks have joined our side and committed large numbers of fighters that, in concert with American and Iraqi forces, have largely driven out al-Qaeda and turned its former stronghold of Ramadi into one of most secure cities in Iraq.

It began with a U.S.-led offensive that killed or wounded more than 200 enemy fighters and captured 600. Most important was the follow-up. Not a retreat back to American bases but the setting up of small posts within the population that, together with the Iraqi national and tribal forces, have brought relative stability to Anbar.

The same has started happening in many of the Sunni areas around Baghdad, including Diyala province — just a year ago considered as lost as Anbar — where, for example, the Sunni insurgent 1920 Revolution Brigades has turned against al-Qaeda and joined the fight on the side of U.S. and Iraqi government forces.

We don’t yet know if this strategy will work in mixed Sunni-Shiite neighborhoods. Nor can we be certain that this cooperation between essentially Sunni tribal forces and an essentially Shiite central government can endure. But what cannot be said — although it is now heard daily in Washington — is that the surge, which is shorthand for Gen. David Petraeus’s new counterinsurgency strategy, has failed. The tragedy is that, just as a working strategy has been found, some Republicans in the Senate have lost heart and want to pull the plug.

Even some Republicans have been so cowered by their Democrat colleagues they are turning against what works. It isn’t just the Reid, Pelosi and Co. crowd, some Republicans are themselves Defeatocrats who refuse to consider the facts on the ground and are looking forward to defeat.

[…]A month ago, Petraeus was asked whether we could still win in Iraq. The general, who had recently attended two memorial services for soldiers lost under his command, replied that if he thought he could not succeed he would not be risking the life of a single soldier.

Just this week, Petraeus said that the one thing he needs more than anything else is time. To cut off Petraeus’s plan just as it is beginning — the last surge troops arrived only last month — on the assumption that we cannot succeed is to declare Petraeus either deluded or dishonorable. Deluded in that, as the best-positioned American in Baghdad, he still believes we can succeed. Or dishonorable in pretending to believe in victory and sending soldiers to die in what he really knows is an already failed strategy.

That’s the logic of the wobbly Republicans’ position. But rather than lay it on Petraeus, they prefer to lay it on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and point out his government’s inability to meet the required political “benchmarks.” As a longtime critic of the Maliki government, I agree that it has proved itself incapable of passing laws important for long-term national reconciliation.

But first comes the short term. And right now we have the chance to continue to isolate al-Qaeda and, province by province, deny it the Sunni sea in which it swims. A year ago, it appeared that the only way to win back the Sunnis and neutralize the extremists was with great national compacts about oil and power sharing. But Anbar has unexpectedly shown that even without these constitutional settlements, the insurgency can be neutralized and al-Qaeda defeated at the local and provincial levels with a new and robust counterinsurgency strategy.

The costs are heartbreakingly high — increased American casualties as the enemy is engaged and spectacular suicide bombings designed to terrify Iraqis and demoralize Americans. But the stakes are extremely high as well.

In the long run, agreements on oil, federalism and de-Baathification are crucial for stabilizing Iraq. But their absence at this moment is not a reason to give up in despair, now that we finally have a counterinsurgency strategy in place that is showing success against the one enemy — al-Qaeda — that both critics and supporters of the war maintain must be fought everywhere and at all cost

So why are Defeatocrats so deathly afraid of letting General Patreus show us if indeed he’s capable of finishing the job he started? The following will present us with the real reason for to their infatuation with defeat (H/T: Yid with Lid)

The Good News is Bad News It’s tough being a member of Congress. Even if you’re in the majority, as is Rep. Nancy Boyda of Kansas, you never know when your ears may be assaulted by outrageous and offensive ideas.

Like what? At a recent hearing of the Armed Services Committee, retired Gen. Jack Keane said “progress is being made” by U.S. military forces in Iraq; “We are on the offensive and we have the momentum,” he added. The freshman congresswoman was so distressed by these remarks that she got up and she walked out.

There was “only so much” she could take, she explained, so she “had to leave the room…after so much of the frustration of having to listen to what we listened to.” She said she was worried, too, that General Keane’s remarks “will in fact show up in the media and further divide this country.” Hey, that could happen!

What the good Representative from Kansas is so upset about, is not that it might “further divide this country,” what she’s really afraid of is that any evidence that this administration’s plans may have a chance of success might result in the Defeatocrats being dumped into the trashbin of American Congressional history by the very voters that brought them into power. Defeatocrats, like Representative Boyda, have shown themselves as caring little or nothing about the country as a whole. Instead they have focused on a very narrow but loud constituency whose understanding of events betrays their sheep like mentality, their total ignorance of current and historical events… and extreme mental laziness to boot. If General Patreus is allowed to succeed, Boyda and her cohorts are in for a heap of political trouble!

So, coming back to Ahmed Al-Jarallah’s opinion piece:

As a society, which suffered sectarian disputes, Iraq needed rehabilitation. If the United States were to withdraw its troops now, Iraq will suffer even more and create a fertile environment for the birth of thousands of clones of Saddam. We know some Iraqis want the Americans get out of their country. But we also know a huge segment of the Iraqi society wants the US troops to stay because they are scared of being left alone. The United States is aware that Iraq is the cornerstone of the Middle East which links three continents. What America needs at the moment is an experienced surgeon who can handle this historic operation in the Middle East by removing the tumor, which is the cause of all troubles.

Experienced surgeons usually don’t negotiate when it comes to dangerous tumors which are a risk to the stability, security and economic future of this vital region.

Arabs know Arabs best, they share the culture, the hopes and the ideals. It would behoove the Defeatocrats in both parties to heed the words of those Arabs who have consistently shown they share America’s ideas and values of freedom and lasting peace by destroying the enemy of both, through swift, unavoidably surgically precise actions. To cut and run may bring a few weeks of calm at best, but whether those few weeks come to fruition or not, the result of cutting and running will be the emboldening of terrorism, the betrayal of and the subsequent distrust by those we set out to help. More importantly and definitely worse, it will bring terrorism back to our very own shores!

Infidels and the Religion of Submission

I have posted, in the past, here and here about how horribly some Muslims persecute other religions. Their attitude, their actions, are nothing more than proof positive of IslamoFascist designs on the world at large. Finally, some publications and some liberal politicians are starting to wake up. I can not help being outraged at these two reports.

The July 23 issue of Newsweek, has the following (H/T Debbie Schlussel):

Last Rites in the Holyland?
The world’s most ancient Christian communities are fleeing their birthplace.

July 23, 2007 issue - He refused to leave Baghdad, even after the day last year when masked Sunni gunmen forced him and eight co-workers to line up against a wall and said, “Say your prayers.” An Assyrian Christian, Rayid Albert closed his eyes and prayed to Jesus as the killers opened fire. He alone survived, shot seven times. But a month ago a note was left at his front door, warning, “You have three choices: change your religion, leave or pay the jeziya“—a tax on Christians levied by ancient Islamic rulers. It was signed “The Islamic Emirate of Iraq,” a Qaeda pseudonym. That was the day Albert decided to get out immediately. He and the other 10 members of his household are now living as refugees in Kurdistan.

Across the lands of the Bible, Christians like Albert and his family are abandoning their homes. According to the World Council of Churches, the region’s Christian population has plunged from 12 million to 2 million in the past 10 years. Lebanon, until recently a majority Christian country—the only one in the Mideast—has become two-thirds Muslim. The Greek Orthodox archbishop in Jerusalem, where only 12,000 Christians remain, is pleading with his followers not to leave. “We have to persevere,” says Theodosios Atallah Hanna. “How can the land of Jesus Christ stay without Christians?” The proportion of Christians in Bethlehem, once 85 percent, is now 20 percent. Egypt’s Coptic Christians, who trace the roots of their faith back to Saint Mark’s preaching in the first century, used to account for 10 percent of their country’s population. Now they’ve dwindled to an estimated 6 percent. “The flight of Christians out of these areas is similar to the hunt for Jews,” says Magdi Allam, an Egyptian-Italian author and expert on Islam, himself a Muslim. “There is no better example of what will happen if this human tragedy in the Arab-Muslim world is allowed to continue.”

Nowhere is the exodus more extreme than in Iraq. Before the war, members of the Assyrian and Chaldean rites, along with smaller numbers of Armenians and others, constituted roughly 1.2 million of the country’s 25 million people. Most sources agree that well over half of those Christians have fled the country now, and many or most of the rest have been internally displaced, but some estimates are far more drastic. According to the Roman Catholic relief organization Caritas, the number of Christians in Iraq had plummeted to 25,000 by last year. Of the 1.7 million Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria, half are Christians, says Father Raymond Moussalli, a Chaldean vicar who now says mass every night in a basement in Amman.

The message from the IslamoFascists is clear. There will be no peace until the whole world is Muslim or until the West wakes up (while it still can) and teaches these cretins an unforgettable lesson, and if by teaching such a lesson these subhumans get their 72 virgins each then I guess the West will have only accelerated these guys’ “rewards”. It would be a win/win situation would’n it, gentle reader?

Over the centuries, the region’s Christians have frequently made common cause with their Muslim neighbors. Leaders of some Christian factions even backed Hizbullah during last summer’s Lebanon war, and Arabic-speaking Christians in the Palestinian territories have regularly sided with the Muslim majority against the Israeli occupation. Five years ago Palestinian militants found sanctuary from Israel’s tanks inside Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity. Nevertheless, old relationships are crumbling now. When Pope Benedict XVI quoted a medieval scholar’s critical comments on the Prophet Muhammad, last September, furious Palestinians reacted by torching at least half a dozen churches on the West Bank. About 3,000 Christians remain in Gaza—many of them seeking new homes somewhere else. “We’re living in a state of anxiety,” says Hanady Missak, deputy principal of the Rosary Sisters School in Gaza City. Militants ransacked the school’s chapel during the battle between Hamas and Fatah last month. Crosses were broken and prayer books burned.

Nice way to show gratitude to the very same churches and priests that gave these vermin sanctuary against dem Jooz from the Zionist Entity. And Hamas, who wants to show the world that they are capable of running a government, that they believe in law and order, well… the truth is an inconvenient one, isn’t it? About 3,000 Christians remain in Gaza—many of them seeking new homes somewhere else. “We’re living in a state of anxiety,” says Hanady Missak, deputy principal of the Rosary Sisters School in Gaza City. Militants ransacked the school’s chapel during the battle between Hamas and Fatah last month. Crosses were broken and prayer books burned. I guess no gratitude was shown them because these Christians were merely being used…

At least a few moderate imams are speaking out against attacks on Christians. “I ask the culprits to return to the Holy Qur’an and reread it,” said Sheik Muhammed Faieq in a recent sermon at the Mussab Mosque in the Baghdad suburb of Dora, where jihadists have waged a cleansing campaign against Christians. “Forcing people to leave their religion or properties is contradicting Islam’s traditions and instructions.” For many in the Middle East, the admonition comes too late. “There is no future for Christians in Iraq for the next thousand years,” says Rayid Paulus Tuma, a Chaldean Christian who fled his home in Mosul after two of his brothers were gunned down gangland style. His pessimism is shared by Srood Mattei, an Assyrian Christian now in Kurdistan: “We can see the end of the tunnel—and it is dark.”

For those of you who thought that crucifixions went out of style (H/T: Atlas Shrugs) with the Roman Empire’s grip on the Middle East, read on so you will understand how dark the tunnel, referred to above, and its end really are…

Report: Christians crucified by terrorists in Iraq
Believers in Jesus said to be nailed to crosses, tied with ropes, set ablaze

Christians in Iraq, including converts from Islam and people involved in mixed-faith marriages, are being crucified by Muslim terrorists, according to a Dutch member of Parliament studying the war-torn country.

Several Iraqi Christians “are nailed to a cross and their arms are tied up with ropes. The ropes are put on fire,” Joel Voordewind told BosNewsLife, an online news agency focusing on Christians and Jews in difficult circumstances.

According to the site, Voordewind described how a person, who “survived” a crucifixion, “even showed holes in his hands,” apparently from nails.

Voordewind said victims of the crucifixions are “in most cases Christian converts who abandoned Islam or people who, religiously speaking, are involved in mixed marriages.”

He did not specify how many Christians have been crucified in recent weeks and months, as an official report is expected soon. Voordewind is slated to present his findings to Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen within the next few days.

The report comes as thousands of Christians are said to be fleeing Iraq due to ongoing threats and violence against them. Just yesterday, over 80 people were killed in bomb blasts in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk. Most of the casualties resulted from a suicide truck bomb which detonated near the offices of the Kurdish political party led by Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani.

BosNewsLife says Voordewind was part of a Dutch delegation visiting several countries in the Mideast, including Syria, where several lawmakers held talks with the terrorist group Hamas.

For those whose eyes, ears and minds are so closed that they fail to see the danger, let me tell you a little about Joel Voordewind. He is a Dutch Member of Parliament representing the Christian Union Party. He was part of a Dutch delegation visiting several countries in the Mideast, including Syria, where several lawmakers held talks with the terrorist group Hamas. He went to the Mideast not to instigate further trouble, he went to the Middle East to start a dialogue with Muslims, including Hamas… and the above is the shocking news he found. Gentle reader, he’s not describing an event that happened twenty one centuries ago, his shock is about barbaric acts happening right now, as we speak… Several Iraqi Christians “are nailed to a cross and their arms are tied up with ropes. The ropes are put on fire…”

Christians have been living in the Middle East for two thousand years, centuries before Islam was born! Christians have often sided with the Muslims against the Jews, some even gave these Muslims sanctuary and... this is how they get repaid, crosses were broken and prayer books burned… Anyone who believes that the problem in the Middle East are merely a Zionist/Palestinian problem should reexamine those illusions and realize the true magnitude of the IslamoFascist threat. A person, who “survived” a crucifixion, “even showed holes in his hands,” apparently from nails… After 2000 years, Christianity is becoming extinct in its cradle… the West, its culture and its lifestyle, is next! “The flight of Christians out of these areas is similar to the hunt for Jews,” says Magdi Allam, an Egyptian-Italian author and expert on Islam, himself a Muslim. “There is no better example of what will happen if this human tragedy in the Arab-Muslim world is allowed to continue.” So… WHY IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IGNORING THIS?!?!?

The Jihadi at the Gate and the Jihadi Within

For a Western mind to understand a Jihadi is hard, if not nearly impossible. The logic seems different, the thoughtwave patterns seem to transmit on a different wavelength. Therefore, one must carefully examine what makes a Jihadi tick. While, Eastern philosophies and way of life differ from their Western counterparts there are similarities, there is a lot more in common than first meets the eye. Life’s value may vary but basically every normal, healthy, human being wants a good moral life and enough sustenance to provide comfortably for one’s family. And yet, the Jihadi is different! Life has no value, happiness on this plane of existence is seemingly of little consequence. Especially so, because of the very materialistic Paradise promised by Mohammed as Yid With Lid documents.

To help us understand what makes a Jihadi, I will quote from an article by a Pakistani writer (himself, a Muslim), Ziauddin Sardar, which appeared in Britain’s New Statesman:

What goes on in the mind of a jihadi?

A few weeks ago, I had a close encounter with a jihadi suicide bomber. That got me thinking. We know that jihadis are motivated by a perverted notion of religion. But not all jihadis are suicide bombers. What was the extra ingredient, I wondered, that turned a jihadi into one? What’s going on in his mind?

I say “him” because most of the jihadis in Pakistan so far have been young men. But this may change. Last month, burqa-clad female students took over the Hafsa mosque in Islamabad. To begin with, they wanted to defend the mosque, which the authorities want to demolish. Then they started kidnapping “prostitutes” - which was basically anyone not wearing a burqa. Now they are demanding sharia law and want to turn Pakistan into an “Islamic state”. If their demands are not met, they say, they will unleash a wave of suicide bombings.

Yes, gentle reader, a female mind can be as easily indoctrinated as a male’s mind, even if the “perks” are not quite the same…

I take these women seriously. While filming a Dispatches investigation for Channel 4 on Pakistan, I went to the Hafsa mosque. The female students stood, shoulder to shoulder, wielding sticks. Some kept a vigil on the roof where a machine-gun was on display. Security forces prevented me from getting inside the mosque, but I managed to talk to their shrouded comrades a few days later. Although their rhetoric was blood-curdling, what really worried me was how contented they were. They were angry and ready to kill and be killed. But, above all, they oozed buckets of self-satisfaction.

I found the same contentment in the jihadi I interviewed in Karachi. He was captured in a police raid wearing a jacket containing 6.5 kilos of explosive, and carrying three grenades. Still in his early twenties, if he had succeeded in his mission he would have killed many people. Armed police brought him for interview, his face covered, and in shackles that reminded me of the Middle Ages. I was nervous. But he was cool as a mountain stream. He was neither disturbed nor concerned; he showed no feelings or emotions. He was exceptionally happy to be a jihadi, he said. I learned from the police that most jihadis in their custody were like this.

What is it that so hypnotizes a Jihadi, as to be happy with the potential of pain or even death? What powerful mind altering drug are being applied? To give you an idea of what early Jihadists were like, the word “assassin” is derived from the Arabic word “hashasshin.” It originally described a militant sect of Ismaili Muslims that was active between the 8th and 14th centuries. The members who were charged with killing the sect’s enemies supposedly smoked opium or hassish prior to carrying out their deed. However, according to the Wikipedia, “Today, it is known that hashishinnya was an offensive term used to depict this cult by its Muslim and Mongolian detractors; the extreme zeal and cold preparation to murder makes it unlikely they ever used drugs. As far as is known they only used daggers, rarely survived their attacks, even when successful.” So too, today, no real drugs are known to be used. Instead the teachers, use brain washing techniques on their subjects from a very early age, onwards.

What makes them so contented? The idea that they have a place in paradise is partly responsible. But there is more at play than just religion.

Terrorist groups, like most employers, demand certain qualities from their recruits. And the jihadi recruits have to meet certain psycho logical standards. It helps if they have been educated in a madrasa, where they are taught that Islam is not a faith or a world-view but an absolute, an unchanging list of dos and don’ts that have to be adhered to at all costs.

But more important is for the jihadis to have a psychological make-up that can easily be manipulated by their handlers. Jihadis do not receive much training. What they do go through is a process of speedy but effective brainwashing. They have to be impressionable, empty vessels into which any old junk can be poured and defined as Absolute Truth. That is why so many of them tend to be so young.

The brainwashing is achieved through two processes. First, their mental framework is rearranged and fitted with exclusive transmitters and no receivers. They can speak but cannot listen. Rather, they can spout only certain tailor-made phrases and pieties. So a conversation with them can only be a one-way affair. They become quite incapable of rotational thought, and it becomes impossible to argue or reason with them. Second, they are transported into a beatific space where all human concerns become irrelevant. Hence, the contentment that they experience. The jihadi I interviewed was having some kind of mystical experience, I felt. He was altogether on another plane, a different universe, where what happened to him or what he did to others was totally meaningless. The window of paradise had been opened for him, and he could feel its fragrant draught. That experience was the only thing that really mattered to him.

So, what goes on in the minds of jihadis? Nothing. Because there is nothing inside them. All their humanity has been flushed out. Emotions and feelings have evaporated; critical faculties and moral compasses have been removed; they have been divorced from human concerns and experience. That’s what I saw when I met the female jihadis of Hafsa mosque. I felt their contentment. And it made me quiver with fear.

Yes, gentle reader, it is very scary! As someone living in the West, what scares me the most is not just the Islamic Jihadi. There is also another, (albeit unwitting) Jihadi. He/she is the one who will stupidly and unthinkingly repeat, like sheep, the mantras taught by left wing ideologists. Noam Chomsky, for example, who never met a jihadist he didn’t like, poses for photo ops with every sworn enemy of the US or Israel. He is an author praised by opportunistic drug dealer/politicos, like Hugo Chávez. Chomsky’s grandiloquent ideas, however, when tested in the light of true freedom, when tested in the light of the lessons of history, fall apart! They are like a house without foundation, it may look beautiful, but is not firmly grounded just as his ideas have no grounding in reason.

Yet Chomsky, like the teachers of the Pakistani Jihadists, has seduced the mind and shutdown the thinking and reasoning abilities of multitudes of impressionable youth. With revisionist history that ignores key facts and often substitutes them with fantasies, he and a whole slew of academics (the discredited Ward Churchill, immediately comes to mind!) have succeeded in producing an America where celebrities’ inane pronouncements are taken as supreme truths, as deep philosophical statements.

Chomsky, while he may hate the US and everything the West stands for, is no fool! I doubt he himself believes even a tenth of what he proclaims. So, what is his motivation? Anyone who has known the good professor, anyone acquainted with him since childhood will tell you that Noam is first and foremost a superb self-promoter no matter whose head he must tread on, no matter what controversial or outrages pronouncement he must fabricate… but there is more… By practically becoming the head theologian of extreme liberal politics, he positioned himself for a very important position. If George Soros and Michael Moore succeed in their vision, Chomsky would become a prominent member of that government. Were it not for the fact that, if they actually do succeed (and I quiver with fear at the mere thought!), it will soon become a World Caliphate. Will Chomsky, the Jew, then become Al-Noami, the Islamist? Could he be that hypocritical, would he sell his soul to save his neck? You betcha!

Before you, gentle reader, tell me that I’m being outrageous myself, that my comparison of Liberalism with Jihadism is unfair and has no basis in truth, let me repeat you the following from the article above: “First, their mental framework is rearranged and fitted with exclusive transmitters and no receivers. They can speak but cannot listen. Rather, they can spout only certain tailor-made phrases and pieties. So a conversation with them can only be a one-way affair. They become quite incapable of rotational thought, and it becomes impossible to argue or reason with them.” Sound familiar, anyone?

How the left led us into 9/11

The LA Times
The Clinton and Carter administrations made the U.S. look like a weak, attractive target for terrorists.

In considering a funding cutoff for U.S. troops in Iraq, the liberal leadership in Congress runs the risk of making the United States more vulnerable to future attacks, not just in the Middle East but here at home. To understand this, it's not enough to revisit the factors that led to the Iraq invasion. We must consider the roots of 9/11 itself. Only by understanding the policies that sowed the seeds of 9/11 can we intelligently decide how best to proceed in fighting the war on terror.

Pundits on the left say that 9/11 was the result of a "blowback" of resistance from the Islamic world against U.S. foreign policy. At first glance, this seems to make no sense. American colonialism in the Middle East? The U.S. has no history of colonialism there. Washington's support for unelected dictatorial regimes in the region? The Muslims can't be outraged about this, because there are no other kinds of regimes in the region. U.S. support for Israel and wars against the Muslims? Yes, but the U.S. has frequently fought on the side of the Muslims, as in Afghanistan in the 1980s or in the Persian Gulf War.

But in a sense the liberal pundits are right. The U.S. made two gigantic foreign policy blunders in recent decades that did sow the seeds of 9/11. What the liberals haven't recognized is that these blunders were the direct result of their policies and actions, and were carried out by Democratic presidents — Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

To understand this, we need a little perspective. Radical Islam became a global force in 1979, when it captured its first major state, Iran. Before that, radical organizations such as the Muslim Brotherhood were fighting losing battles to overthrow their local governments. This changed with the success of the Khomeini regime in Iran. The Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was the first Muslim leader to describe the U.S. as the "Great Satan" and to counsel martyrdom and jihad against it. Iran continues to be a model for radical Muslims.

Khomeini's ascent to power was aided by Carter's policies. Carter came into office stressing his support for human rights. His advisors told him that he could not consistently support the shah of Iran, who had secret police and was widely accused of violating human rights. The administration began to withdraw its support and finally pulled the rug out from under the shah, forcing him to step down.

The result was Khomeini, whose regime was vastly more tyrannical than the shah's. The Khomeini revolution provided state sponsorship for Islamic radicalism and terrorism and paved the way for Osama bin Laden and 9/11.

Clinton's policies also helped to provoke 9/11. After the Cold War, leading Islamic radicals returned to their home countries. Bin Laden left Afghanistan and went back to Saudi Arabia; Ayman Zawahiri returned to Egypt. They focused on fighting their own rulers — what they termed the "near enemy" — in order to establish states under Islamic law. But in the mid- to late 1990s, these radicals shifted strategy. They decided to stop fighting the near enemy and to attack the "far enemy," the U.S.

The world's sole superpower would seem to be much more formidable than local Muslim rulers such as Hosni Mubarak in Egypt or the Saudi royal family. Bin Laden argued, however, that the far enemy was actually weaker and more vulnerable. He was confident that when kicked in their vital organs, Americans would pack up and run. Just like in Vietnam. Just like in Mogadishu.

Bin Laden saw his theory of American weakness vindicated during the Clinton era. In 1993, Islamic radicals bombed the World Trade Center. The Clinton administration did little. In 1996, Muslim terrorists attacked the Khobar Towers facility on a U.S. base in Saudi Arabia. No response. In 1998, Al Qaeda bombed two U.S. embassies in Africa. Clinton responded with a few perfunctory strikes in Sudan and Afghanistan. These did no real harm to Al Qaeda and only strengthened the perception of American ineptitude. In 2000, Islamic radicals bombed the U.S. destroyer Cole. Again, the Clinton team failed to act. By his own admission, Bin Laden concluded that his suspicion of American pusillanimity and weakness was correct. He became emboldened to plot the 9/11 attacks.

Still, the 2001 attacks might have been averted had the Clinton administration launched an effective strike against Bin Laden in the years leading up to them. Clinton has said he made every effort to get Bin Laden during his second term. Yet former CIA agent Michael Scheuer estimates that there were about 10 chances to capture or kill Bin Laden during this period and that the Clinton people failed to capitalize on any of them.

Between 1996 and mid-2000, Bin Laden was not in deep hiding. He gave sermons in Kandahar's largest mosque. He talked openly on his satellite phone. He also granted a number of media interviews: in 1996, with author Robert Fisk; in 1997, with Peter Arnett of CNN; in 1998, with John Miller of ABC News; in 1999, with a journalist affiliated with Time magazine. Isn't it strange that all these people could find Bin Laden but the Clinton administration couldn't?

Two lessons can be drawn from these sorry episodes. The first one, derived from Carter's actions, is: In getting rid of the bad regime, make sure that you don't get a worse one. This happened in Iran and could happen again, in Iraq, if leading Democrats in Congress have their way. The second lesson, derived from Clinton's inaction, is that the perception of weakness emboldens our enemies. If the Muslim insurgents and terrorists believe that the U.S. is divided and squeamish about winning the war on terror, they are likely to escalate their attacks on Americans abroad and at home. In that case, 9/11 will be only the beginning.

By Dinesh D'Souza, a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, is the author, most recently, of "The Enemy at Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11."

U.S. Hits Al Qaeda In Somalia

Well I was wrong...I guess Bush is willing to go after Al-Qaeda in Somalia after all.

MOGADISHU, Somalia A U.S. air strike hit targets in southern Somalia where Islamic militants were believed to be sheltering suspects in the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies, Somali officials and witnesses said Tuesday. Many people were reported killed.

Monday's attack was the first overt military action by the U.S. in Somalia since the 1990s and the legacy of a botched intervention — known as "Black Hawk Down" — that left 18 U.S. servicemen dead.

Helicopter gunships launched new attacks Tuesday near the scene of the U.S. air strike, although it was not clear if they were American or Ethiopian aircraft, and it was not known if there were any casualties.

U.S. warships have been seeking to capture al Qaeda members thought to be fleeing Somalia after Ethiopia invaded Dec. 24 in support of the government and drove the Islamic militia out of the capital and toward the Kenyan border.

The White House would not confirm the attack, nor would the Pentagon.

But a U.S. government official said at least one AC-130 gunship was used. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the operation's sensitivity.

AC-130 gunships have elaborate sensors that can go after targets day or night. They are operated by the Special Operations Command and have been used heavily against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

I commented yesterday that Somalia probably wouldn't get any help from the US given their track record with Black Hawk Down. I completely overlooked a possible air assualt against Al-Qaeda militants being chased out by Ethiopian ground troops. My bad...

ANALYSIS-Somali Islamists weakened but not defeated

Al-Reuters spins the Islamists as the good guys. Click for video.
Analysis from Al-Reuters:

NAIROBI, Jan 5 (Reuters) - If words are matched by deeds, expect Somalia's Islamists to rise from the ashes of a defeat by Ethiopian troops who forced them from strongholds into hiding.

The movement seemed unstoppable six months ago when it seized Mogadishu from U.S.-backed warlords, opened long-abandoned facilities like an international airport, created its own police force and dispensed justice through sharia law.

But faced with an onslaught by Ethiopian tanks, troops and jets defending the interim government, the Islamists' control over much of south Somalia crumbled in just two weeks.

Though looking at their weakest yet, the Islamists -- who formed the Somalia Islamic Courts Council (SICC) and numbered between 3,000-4,000 fighters at their height -- are not a spent force and may resurface rebranded and reformed, analysts say.

Addis Ababa need only look at history to realise that.

Between 1992 and 1998, traditionally Christian Ethiopia invaded Muslim Somalia to attack members of al-Itithaad al-Islaami, largely dismantling the militant group Washington says is linked to foreign terrorists.

But a decade later, the leader of the group's military wing, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, re-emerged as the chairman of the "shuura" or consultative council of the SICC.

"There's no reason to believe Aweys will disappear forever," said a foreign-based Somali analyst, who declined to be named because he often travels to his homeland. "I'm confident this is not the last time we see the Islamic Courts."

Indeed...so are the islamists

Yo Mamma, Osama!
"If the world thinks we are dead, they should know we are alive. We will rise from the ashes," spokesman Abdirahim Ali Mudey told Reuters from a hideout.

Another voice from a cave seems confident too, as Al Qaeda urges Somali Islamists to attack Ethiopians.

Al-Qaeda: Kill the Christians

Killing the Pope is halal!
This must be Al Qaeda's version of the "Army of One"... the "Jihad of One". I know that if I look hard enough, tap my heels and repeat "the religion of peace" three times, I'll find "Tolerance" and "Diversity" in there somewhere. Ah yes.... scroll down to the part about poisonous snakes in our cars..... while Democrats thought the snakes were all Republicans.

Al-Qaeda: Kill the Christians
By Patrick Poole
FrontPageMagazine.com | November 17, 2006

"An al-Qaeda manual made a surprise reappearance on October 31st in a new repackaged, reformatted edition on an online jihadi forum associated with the terrorist organization. The manual, A Guide for the Undecided on the Legitimacy of Killing Christians, (Irshad al-Hayara fi Ibahat Dimaa al-Nasara) made its first appearance back in September 2002, published by the al-Qaeda “think tank,” the now defunct Center for Islamic Research and Study, in their bi-weekly magazine, Sawt al-Jihad (The Voice of Jihad). Translated excerpts from the 56-page manual, authored by Hafid Abu-Basir, are available from the Site Institute"The republication of this manual follows just weeks after an al-Qaeda-linked website released a manual by Egyptian Mohammed Khalil Al-Hakaymah, How to Fight Alone, a how-to guide for Muslims to conduct their own “Jihad of One” against the “Crusader-Zionists.” A brief analysis of al-Hakaymah’s manual by Geostrategy describes his instructions on how lone Muslims can take the battle to the infidels:"

The recommended methods include stabbing, feeding overdoses of cocaine or heroin, injecting air via needles, assassination with guns, burning down homes, putting poisonous snakes in cars, tampering with car brakes, planting explosives in vehicles, running over people, and luring people and then killing them. The book also highly recommends poisoning targets and includes various methods of preparing and obtaining lethal toxins, including botulism. The book also gives instructions on making improvised explosives.... Read entire article here.

The Sheep Have Spoken

Keith Ellison
Democrats take the House and the Senate...much to the satisfaction of Jihad Jaara.

Exit polls of 8,344 voters across the country, conducted by the Associated Press and the TV networks, showed that a strong 60 percent majority of them opposed the war in Iraq and only one-third said they thought, as Mr. Bush and Republican candidates argued, that the war was necessary to protect U.S. security in the global war against terrorism.

"Far more voters said national issues mattered more than local issues in their House vote, but there was no difference in how those groups voted in House contests," the AP reported last night.

The Democratic Party's strong performance at the polls also was seen as a vindication of the 50-state strategy that Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean implemented two years ago when he put paid party organizers in all the states in an effort to rebuild the party's long-term infrastructure.
"That's paid off for us and for the rest of the party," said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Refern.

In the 2002 midterm election and 2004 presidential race, Democrats were outmaneuvered by the Republicans' superior voter turnout operation and by the public's perception that Democrats could not be trusted with the nation's national security.

This time, Democrats called for increased spending on the military and poured more money into their voter turnout operation, putting nearly $50 million into their ground game to identify voters and get them to the polls.

Democratic Party officials said it was the first time in years that they were able to compete with Republicans voter-for-voter.

All is not lost...but we're getting there.

Well... American voters wanted change...my prediction is that we will see it. We will see a change in the amount of fighting in the legislature. We will see a change in the ability to identify and protect ourselves against terrorists. And personally I will be seeing a change in how I proceed into my local Starbucks.

Thanks to an Election Night Jihad we now have our first Muslim Congressman. Difster says, "We're in a lot of trouble". I think it is a shame...not that a Muslim is in Congress so much as that Keith Ellison converted to Islam from Roman Catholicism. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Voters elected a black Democrat as the first Muslim in Congress on Tuesday after a race in which he advocated quick U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and made little mention of his faith.

Keith Ellison, a 43-year-old lawyer and state representative, defeated two rivals, television networks said, to succeed retiring Democrat Martin Sabo in a seat that has been held by Democrats since 1963.

Ellison, who converted to Islam as a 19-year-old college student in his native Detroit, won with the help of Muslims among a coalition of liberal, anti-war voters.

He advocates an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq along with strongly liberal views. While Ellison did not often speak of his faith during the campaign, awareness of his candidacy drew interest from Muslims well beyond the district centered in Minneapolis.

A significant community of Somali immigrants in Minneapolis cast their first votes for him in the crowded September primary. Ellison also was the surprise choice of party regulars.

Yes these are the same Somoli immigrants who drive taxis, refuse rides to nightclubbers and fund Al-Qaeda.

Yes, we're in alot of trouble now.

New York Times: Saddam Was Going Nuclear

NYTThe New York Times is breaking the news that sensitive documents captured when Saddam Hussein was toppled. The documents outline in detail plans for building nuclear weapons. They also reveal Saddam's connections with Iran and various terrorist organizations, including al-Qaida.
Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq had abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

Here's the NYT article.

The New York Times and others seem to be attempting to use this information as a slam on the Bush administration immediately before the mid-term elections. Their argument is that this documentation should never have been put on the internet. They are right. Only it was Congress that authorized their release to the internet.

The part they seem to be overlooking is that this intellegence is irrefutable proof that Saddam Hussein's regime was, indeed, had nuclear ambitions and was actively pursuing nukes. It also provides proof that Saddam Hussein's regime did have a connection with al-Qaida.

It proves there was a legitimate reason to go into Iraq, aside from the reasons that I personally think were reason enough. For instance, having a standing army in the middle of the Middle East.

I think what they are saying is that the Bush administration lied about WMDs before he told the truth about WMDs.

The New York Times, along with John Kerry, the talking heads I'm hearing on television right now, and all the rest of the effete elite hold middle Americans in complete contempt.

They are so wrapped up in their own agendas that they don't seem to realize that the big bombshell is that the intelligence documents were on the internet as opposed to that Saddam Hussein was connected with al-Qaida and other enemies of the United States and was in the process of building a nuclear bomb.

hat tip: In the Bullpen

see National Review Online

Mensa Barbie says this isn't new news. She remembers the New York Times' proclivity for publishing dangerous leaks that breach national security.

Captain's Quarters has a thorough expanation of the intelligence and a points out some of the highlights of the NYT article:
That appears to indicate that by invading in 2003, we followed the best intelligence of the UN inspectors to head off the development of an Iraqi nuke. This intelligence put Saddam far ahead of Iran in the nuclear pursuit, and made it much more urgent to take some definitive action against Saddam before he could build and deploy it. And bear in mind that this intelligence came from the UN, and not from the United States. The inspectors themselves developed it, and they meant to keep it secret. The FMSO site blew their cover, and they're very unhappy about it.

Ray Robinson has a vivid reminder of Saddam's violent reign and an excellent run down of the Iraqi documents.

MVRWC
Yes, the New York Crimes is friggin’ insane. Iraq had a nuclear weapons program and was plotting to build an atomic bomb, but the Bush Administration is bad because those plans ended up online and could help Iran. Iran, who of course is only interested in nuclear technology for “peaceful purposes.” Allllll-righty then.

Theodore's World
But see ... the problem with the NYT thinking (beyond the obvious fact that they're traitors) is that it proves that Bush was RIGHT. The New York Times may think they are reporting another "gotcha" on Bush....but, this is THE gotcha that Bush has for all of the war in Iraq naysayers!!!

Bottom line is as simple as this, the DOCS are proof of Saddam having WMD and how he supported destruction and terrorism.

The Pirates Cove
Here's a thought. The Dems were shown to be completely wrong during the Reagan years vis-a-vis the Cold War and how to end it, which Reagan did. Of course, the Left claims it was Carter (snicker) who really ended it.

Now, the New York Times itself shows that Bush was right, and the Left was wrong. How do they spin this?

The Black Republican says Pay No Attention to the Dictator Behind the Nuclear Curtain.
Conservatives and Liberals alike are trying to figure out how the Democratic Party is going to spin this, and they've come up with some good ideas. But it still strikes me that the morsel people will take away from the story will be: "Saddam had the goods".

My question is: too little, too late? It depends how torqued up New Media can make the otherwise-uninformed portion of the populace between now and Tuesday. Go at it, bloggers.

Al-Qaeda warns Canada

Hat tip to Clarity and Resolve:

OTTAWA - An al-Qaeda strategist has warned Canada to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan or face terrorist attacks similar to 9/11, Madrid and the London transit bombings.

The threat, attributed to a member of the al-Qaeda information and strategy committee, condemns Prime Minister Stephen Harper for refusing to pull out of Afghanistan.

It also refers to Canada's "fanatic adherence to Christianity" as well as its purported attempts to "damage the Muslims" and its support for the "Christian Crusade" against al-Qaeda.

"Despite the strong, increasing opposition to spread its forces in the fire of South Afghanistan, it seems that they will not learn the lesson easily," Hossam Abdul Raouf writes.

"They will either be forced to withdraw their forces or face an operation similar to New York, Madrid, London and their sisters, with the help of Allah."

Why is Canada a target? The video in this post explains things perfectly. As Patrick at C&R says, "Friendship with the great Satan has its advantages." I agree when he says, "I don't care what any partisan jerks say, Canada and America are the best of friends."

I also agree with the the Canadian soldier who says, "They're definitely going to wonder who the Canadians are from here on oot, that's for sure." You betcha!

Al-Qaeda most wanted operative killed in Pakistan

Another one bites the dust.

ISLAMABAD: An Al-Qaeda operative wanted in connection with 1998 US Embassy bombings has been killed in Pakistan.

Attwa, 42 Egyptian was indicted in connection with Al-Qaeeda suicide bombings of US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Darus Salam Tanzania. The attacks killed 224 people including 12 Americans.

It has been officially confirmed in Islamabad that a leading Al-Qaeeda member was killed in an army operation in the frontier region of Pakistan.

On the other hand, CIA has also confirmed the killing of an Al-Qaeeda operative involved in the bombings at the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in an encounter with security forces of the country.

Meanwhile American CIA has said that after the formal DNA test it has been established that Attwa had died in an encounter with the Pakistani Security forces in North Waziristan early this year, after which the FBI has deleted his name and photo posted on its website of most wanted people.

Gulf ships on alert over al-Qaeda threat

The Royal Navy has warned merchant ships in the Gulf to be on their guard after an al-Qaeda threat to target oil terminals in the area.

Coalition naval forces in the area have been put on watch for possible terror threats to oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, officials said.

A Royal Navy official said the threat had resulted in increased security and vigilance at Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura terminal, as well as at a refinery in Bahrain. But oil exports were proceeding as normal, he said.

The Royal Navy, part of the Italian-led Coalition Task Force 152 that patrols international waters off the Ras Tanura terminal, sent an e-mail yesterday warning merchant shipping in the region of Bahrain and eastern Saudi Arabia to be alert for suspicious vessels or activity.

The US navy's 5th fleet, based in Bahrain, said it was aware of the British warning.

The British official said coalition ships were sticking to international waters and had not been invited to patrol inside Saudi Arabia's territorial waters near the terminal.

"The Saudis are very protective of their patch," the British official in Dubai said. He described the patrols as normal naval operations that had been under way since 2002, though on a heightened state of alert for the past month.

This is, in part, a response to a videotaped message from al-Qaida's deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was released on the 5th anniversary of 9/11.

In the video the terrorist leader warned the Persian Gulf region and Israel would be the group's next targets. He also accused Western powers of stealing what he called Muslim oil.

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack says the United States is ready to help Saudi Arabia fight threats from terrorist groups.

"There have been calls by al-Qaida to attack Saudi oil facilities in the recent past," he said. "These are not new. You go back in the record you can see these threats previously. We will do everything that we can, if there is a request for assistance, both in general terms or specific terms to assist the Saudi government."

McCormack declined to discuss specific threats to Saudi facilities or whether the United States has received any requests to defend them.

I doubt if the British has not recieved a request to defend the Saudis and Bahrain, niether has the US. But we always seem to be ready to defend our allies. That's just the way we are.

Head of Irish government confirms terrorists are in Ireland

From Slugger O'Toole:

Bertie Ahren confirms Jihadist presence in Ireland--

Not that he had much choice in the matter, since RTÉ had already obtained documents dating from 2003, under the US Freedom of Information Act, from the US State Department revealing that "up to six Islamist groups have had cells operating in Ireland." and that the information was based on intelligence gathered by gardaí.

Asked if any "foreign terrorist groups" had a presence in Ireland, the embassy named the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Al-Gama'at al-Islamiyah, the Algerian Armed Islamic Group, al-Qaeda, and "possibly Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad".

Asked to describe the presence, the embassy said there are "operational support, logistical and financial cells located in Ireland". Asked if there are "any ethnic or religious communities in the country that are sympathetic to these groups", the embassy said yes. Asked if there had been any anti-American demonstrations in Ireland over the previous 12 months, the embassy said yes, and estimated the average size of a protest at between "30 to 300 people".

Meanwhile, the embassy also told the US state department that there were "suspect non-governmental organisations in the country that have a relationship" with some of the groups.

One could have guessed this being so close in proximity to England and France. as one of Slugger's commentors put it "Where there is a Muslim there is a terrorist eh?" Not neccesarily in the same room, but you get the picture.

Adam Yahiye Gadahn: American Traitor

Adam GadahnWe've seen this guy on TV. He calls himself 'Azzam the American' and is a propagadist for al-Qaeda. He is an American who has become a key member of the al-Qaeda.

Adam Gadahn is the first American to be charged with treason since 1952.

There should have been others charged with treason. I don't want to mention any names like Hanoi Jane or John Walker Lindh. But Adam 'Yahiye' certainly, without question crossed the line to treason.

He has not only done recruitment videos for al-Qaeda, but has provided the English voice overs for other videos so that they can be distributed in English speaking countries.

In the video published on the anniversary of the mass transit attacks in London Adam claimed that no muslim should 'shed a tear' for any Westerners killed in the terrorist attacks in London. He also has promised attacks on America that will leave America streets running 'red with blood'.

A 48-minute video posted on an Islamic militant Web site last month included footage of Al Qaeda's No. 2 man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and Gadahn, who the FBI believes attended Al Qaeda training camps in Pakistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator.

LA Times

"Increasingly, the stature of his statements shows that he not only has credibility as an information operative for Al Qaeda … but if you look at it through the lens of Al Qaeda spreading its message, then he is absolutely an instrumental player," said another counterterrorism official who has watched Gadahn's ascent for years.

"I mean, he is now making statements with Al-Zawahiri, who is the No. 2 and the tactician. And [Gadahn] is right there with him at critical periods of time," said the official, who like others in government spoke on condition of anonymity because of the anticipated criminal case against Gadahn.

Some background:

Gadahn, the son of musician Adam Pearlman, was raised in a middle-class Jewish family, but at the age of 17 he dropped in on the Islamic Society of Orange County and asked to worship there. He later was expelled from the mosque after attacking an employee. Records show he pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges on June 11, 1997, and was sentenced to two days in Orange County jail and 40 hours of community service. It is believed he fled to Pakistan sometime in 1998.

Gadahn disappeared soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

As of May 27, 2004, court records showed that Gadahn failed to perform the community service, so a warrant is outstanding for his arrest.

Some of those who attended the mosque said Gadahn was becoming very extreme in his views, while family members said he began attacking Christianity as he became more a more devout follower of Islam.

According to the FBI, Gadahn attended Al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator. The agency said he also was associated with senior Al Qaeda lieutenant Abu Zubeida in Pakistan. He has used the aliases Adam Pearlman and Aby Suhayb Al-Amriki. The FBI also said Gadahn was known to have performed translations for Al Qaeda, among other services.

In 2004, FBI officials in Los Angeles said Gadahn was last known to be in Southern California in 1997 or 1998.

Some information about Adam Pearlman:

The grandson of a Jewish doctor, the young man was raised as Adam Pearlman on a goat farm in the hills of southwestern Riverside County by parents who had eclectic religious tastes and shunned the modern world.

At 14, his spiritual journey took him to the Islamic Center of Orange County, where he fell under the influence of two radical Muslims, Khalil Deek and Hisham Diab, both naturalized U.S. citizens.

Diab, an Egyptian, owned an accounting business, and Deek, a Palestinian, repaired computers. They lived in upstairs apartments across from each other in a complex near Little Gaza, a stretch of Arab-owned shops, restaurants and other businesses on Brookhurst Street in Anaheim.

"Deek and Diab met him at the mosque and [Diab] brought him home like a lost dog,"

It's believed that Adam Pearlman aka whatever he's calling himself is in Pakistan.

One doesn't know how one will react when standing at the business end of a gun. For all his brave talk against his own country, he could cower like a pig when he's caught. Or not. He probably won't be taken alive. Or maybe he will.

However the end comes down for him, he's a traitor and has been rightly charged as one.

Top Qaeda leader Goes After White House

No he's not a democrat.

DUBAI (Reuters) - A man believed to be a top al Qaeda militant who escaped from a U.S. jail near Kabul was shown in a new videotape broadcast on Tuesday exhorting followers in Afghanistan to fight on until they attack the White House.

"Allah will not be pleased until we reach the rooftop of the White House," Abu Yahya al-Libi was shown telling fighters in the tape aired by the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television.

The channel said the tape was one-hour long, showing footage of Libi urging fighters to train hard and even to try to acquire nuclear technology.

"You have to get well prepared by starting with exercise, and then you have to learn how to use technology until you are capable of nuclear weapons," he said.

Concerning nukes: a comment from a reader in Israel:

Joe, from whereever you are writing, you can afford to say "watch them very carefully." In a a handout newpaper, "Israeli," put out for the customers of the buses riding to and from the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem, I saw an article by Amos Segev in Hebrew stating about Iran, "In the end the decision must be ours alone."

If your country does not have the nuts to deal with the Moslem bomb, we in Israel will have to. G-d only grant that our leaders have the nuts to do it themselves...

We're with you on that too, Ruvy.
