Somali children soldiers need rehabilitation

Originally posted at Right Truth

We have reported on recent events in Somalia, their fight against the Islamic Courts Union and al-Qadea terrorists, the aid given to them by neighboring countries to fight these terrorists. What we haven't heard is information on the estimated 70,000 children conscripted into Somalia’s fighting factions, exposed to attacks, separated from their families. (IRNA)

These children have been recruited over time and now about 70,000 are involved in this conflict, on all sides," said Qamar Aden, the chairwoman of Somalia’s parliamentary committee on human rights. This figure was provided by the United Nations Joint Needs Assessment team for Somalia, she said.

However, the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, in a 2004 report, estimated that 200,000 children had been recruited into the different factions of Somalia's conflict over a 14-year period.

Aden said [that] the government had released all child soldiers captured in the fighting with the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC). However, those released do not undergo any form of rehabilitation due to a lack of capacity in the Transitional Federal Government. [snip]

“Now we are asking the international community to help us rehabilitate these children,” Aden said. (read more)

This is an opportunity to save a generation of young boys from a future life of war and terrorism. This is an opportunity to show them a childhood, educate them, help them to grow up to be good citizens of this world.

Somalia has gone through a lot and has shown the world they seem to be serious about NOT living under sharia law. This is an opportunity for the world to do something that might have a real influence on their future.

Dr. Michael A. Weinstein writes that Somalia is entering a devolutionary cycle. It doesn't have to be that way:

During the last two weeks of January, the future political configuration of Somalia and the dispositions of external actors toward the country became more apparent, as a devolution of power to sub-societies got underway that international and regional players seemed too weak and half-hearted to arrest.

Somalia is a part of the war on terror and it behooves us to help them keep the ICU out. Read " Successes and Setbacks in the “Long War”" at The Infidel Sage. The list of successes and setbacks is long and worth reading. The writer reminds us that there IS a plan to fight this war:

A year ago the Pentagon released its Quadrennial Defense Review. It was essentially a strategy for a 20-year “long war” and a generational battle plan designed to prepare the military for a Cold War type struggle against the forces of militant Islam. According to the official unveiling:
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come.
[snip]

It is imperative to not forget the dramatic successes that the West has accomplished, and to remember and learn from the setbacks that it has experienced. We are still at the beginning of this war, not the end, and the strategies, successes and setbacks we face in the future will be shaped and determined by what we have both achieved, and failed to achieve, in the past.

Helping these children is something that the United Nations could do, if they really wanted to be relevant. Somalia can be a success in the war on terror. (Just keep the U.N. child molesters away from the boys.)

U.S. Hits Al Qaeda In Somalia

Well I was wrong...I guess Bush is willing to go after Al-Qaeda in Somalia after all.

MOGADISHU, Somalia A U.S. air strike hit targets in southern Somalia where Islamic militants were believed to be sheltering suspects in the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies, Somali officials and witnesses said Tuesday. Many people were reported killed.

Monday's attack was the first overt military action by the U.S. in Somalia since the 1990s and the legacy of a botched intervention — known as "Black Hawk Down" — that left 18 U.S. servicemen dead.

Helicopter gunships launched new attacks Tuesday near the scene of the U.S. air strike, although it was not clear if they were American or Ethiopian aircraft, and it was not known if there were any casualties.

U.S. warships have been seeking to capture al Qaeda members thought to be fleeing Somalia after Ethiopia invaded Dec. 24 in support of the government and drove the Islamic militia out of the capital and toward the Kenyan border.

The White House would not confirm the attack, nor would the Pentagon.

But a U.S. government official said at least one AC-130 gunship was used. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the operation's sensitivity.

AC-130 gunships have elaborate sensors that can go after targets day or night. They are operated by the Special Operations Command and have been used heavily against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

I commented yesterday that Somalia probably wouldn't get any help from the US given their track record with Black Hawk Down. I completely overlooked a possible air assualt against Al-Qaeda militants being chased out by Ethiopian ground troops. My bad...

Remarkable turnaround for Mogadishu

Victory In Yusuf?

Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf entered Mogadishu on Monday to cap a remarkable turnaround in the capital the Islamists ruled for six months until they were ousted before the New Year, a government source said.

If confirmed, the arrival of Yusuf, protected by his own soldiers plus Ethiopian troops who helped the government drive out the Islamists, would be the 72-year-old veteran soldier's first time in Mogadishu since taking office in 2004.

"The president has arrived in Mogadishu. He is now resting at Nasa Hablod hotel. We are now preparing his house in Villa Somalia, where he will be staying," a government source, who declined to be named, told Reuters.

The bullet-scarred Villa Somalia compound is the former presidential palace of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre, whose 1991 ouster as Somalia's last national president in 1991 triggered more than 15 years of anarchy.

Yusuf had stayed out of Mogadishu, where he is an outsider and still has many enemies from his time as warlord based in the semi-autonomous northern Puntland region.

Wow the American equivilant might be like George Bush entering San Francisco. I'm not sure whether it is a good thing to have a hated ex-warlord as a president but I geuss anything beats Sharia law. Come to think of it, the Polosi crowd already think of GWB as a "ex"war-lord. Given the track record at Mogadishu , Yusuf should probably think GWB an ex if looking for help.

CENTCOM: What Extremists are Saying - Al-Zawahiri

I'm a media whore. Really! I am!
From CENTCOM: That new audiotape from Al-Zawahiri

A jihadist website is observed on 5 January to post several links to 5-minute and 30-second audio message by Al-Qa'ida's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri entitled "Rise up and Support Your Brothers in Somalia."

Following is the text of the audio message, dated Dhu al-Hijjah 1427 hegira, corresponding to January 2007, produced by Al-Sahahb Media Productions:

"In the name of God, praise be to God, and prayers and peace be upon God's Prophet, his household, companions, and supporters. My Muslim brothers everywhere, God's peace and blessings be upon you.

While I am addressing you today, the Crusader invading Ethiopian forces are violating the Islamic land of dear Somalia. Moreover, the Security Council is plotting to approve this invasion by issuing its resolution to dispatch international forces to Somalia and by its failure to issue a resolution that calls for the withdrawal of the Ethiopian forces from Somalia. Here, I am urging the Islamic nation in Somalia to be steadfast in this new Crusader battlefield, which America, its allies, and the United Nations are waging against Islam and Muslims.

The United Nations, which divided Palestine and provided a legal cover for invading Iraq and Afghanistan, is offering today a new service to the Crusader alliance led by America against the Islamic and mujahid Somalia.

My Muslim brothers in Somalia: Do not be terrified by America's power as you have defeated it before, thanks to God and His grace.

Today, America is weaker than before as the mujahidin dealt a fatal blow to it in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hence, it sent its slaves to you. Therefore, do not be affected by the first shock, it is just worthless propaganda, arrogance, and haughtiness. The real battle will begin by launching your campaigns against the Ethiopian forces with God's help and might. The faithful groups-- in their pursuit of death for the sake of God-- will devour the Crusader invading Ethiopian Army, which has launched an aggression against the lands of Islam, God willing.

Yawn! Religious zealots are such a bore.

ANALYSIS-Somali Islamists weakened but not defeated

Al-Reuters spins the Islamists as the good guys. Click for video.
Analysis from Al-Reuters:

NAIROBI, Jan 5 (Reuters) - If words are matched by deeds, expect Somalia's Islamists to rise from the ashes of a defeat by Ethiopian troops who forced them from strongholds into hiding.

The movement seemed unstoppable six months ago when it seized Mogadishu from U.S.-backed warlords, opened long-abandoned facilities like an international airport, created its own police force and dispensed justice through sharia law.

But faced with an onslaught by Ethiopian tanks, troops and jets defending the interim government, the Islamists' control over much of south Somalia crumbled in just two weeks.

Though looking at their weakest yet, the Islamists -- who formed the Somalia Islamic Courts Council (SICC) and numbered between 3,000-4,000 fighters at their height -- are not a spent force and may resurface rebranded and reformed, analysts say.

Addis Ababa need only look at history to realise that.

Between 1992 and 1998, traditionally Christian Ethiopia invaded Muslim Somalia to attack members of al-Itithaad al-Islaami, largely dismantling the militant group Washington says is linked to foreign terrorists.

But a decade later, the leader of the group's military wing, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, re-emerged as the chairman of the "shuura" or consultative council of the SICC.

"There's no reason to believe Aweys will disappear forever," said a foreign-based Somali analyst, who declined to be named because he often travels to his homeland. "I'm confident this is not the last time we see the Islamic Courts."

Indeed...so are the islamists

Yo Mamma, Osama!
"If the world thinks we are dead, they should know we are alive. We will rise from the ashes," spokesman Abdirahim Ali Mudey told Reuters from a hideout.

Another voice from a cave seems confident too, as Al Qaeda urges Somali Islamists to attack Ethiopians.

Somalia must fight

Ethiopia comes to the aid of their neighbor’s fledgling government and defeated the Islamists. Now the tragedy commences. Ethiopia does not have the ability to stay and support the Somali government. They will have to withdraw soon. This is when the Islamists will return with a vengeance. The Somali government is not strong enough to keep them at bay. If the UN sends “Peacekeepers” into the region, things will get worse. The UN will want the Somali government to make deals with the Islamic opposition. This is unacceptable, but it will happen. Mark my words. It doesn’t take some world events expert to see what comes next.

History proves itself over and over. Only those that refuse to study and learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Unfortunately those of us who have no say in policy will suffer the consequences. This brief moment of victory will be replaced by despair soon enough. We have the will to fight back but lack the resolve to defeat the enemy. Islam is spreading, not because of military victories; in fact it’s quite the opposite. They are winning despite losing. It is the politicians and diplomats that are allowing Islam to win. Propaganda and victimhood is their main weapon. Despite murdering and torture they get the “world community” feeling sorry for them and vouching for their actions.

This is the world we live in. The wicked are cared for while the righteous are castigated. It is nice to see Islam on the run in Somalia. I will enjoy it while I can. What comes next will negate everything that has been done thus far. The enemy will be allowed back in and given cover under the “World Umbrella”. Somalia will be worse off now. The vacuum caused by Ethiopia leaving will create greater chaos than they have experienced so far. The Somali government will need help in fighting this enemy, not dealing with it. Then again, this is only applicable if you’ve paid attention to history.

Ethiopian, Somali Troops Regain Jowhar

Chasing Snakes.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- Attacking at dawn, Ethiopian and Somali government troops drove Islamic fighters out of the last major town on the road to the Islamist-held capital.

Former warlord Mohammed Dheere, who ruled Jowhar before it was captured by the Council of Islamic Courts in June, led the Somali government troops as they drove into the city, said resident Abshir Ali Gabre.

"We will attack Mogadishu tomorrow, from two directions," Dheere told the crowd, although his statement appeared to overstep his authority. Dheere does not speak for the government or the Ethiopians.

Government spokesman Abdirahman Dinari confirmed the capture of Jowhar and said his troops were heading toward Balad, an agricultural village about 18 miles from Mogadishu. Smaller than Jowhar, it is the last town before the capital.

A resident there, Mohammed Abdi Hassan, told The Associated Press by telephone that the Islamists have left the city and that no one was in control.

Fighting could still be heard at a military camp south of Jowhar, and an Islamic official said his troops were simply entering a new phase in their battle.

"Our snakes of defense were let loose, now they are ready to bite the enemy everywhere in Somalia," said Sheik Mohamoud Ibrahim Suley. He did not elaborate, but some Islamic leaders have threatened a guerrilla war including suicide bombings in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital.

Snakes! I didn't say it. The Islamist did. But not everyone thinks they are snakes:

After fifteen years of murderous chaos, Somalia was on the brink of peace. The Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) had achieved what the squabbling warlords had failed so signally to do. They had brought stability and an end to violence in the capital Mogadishu and large areas of the country. They had not managed this purely by force of arms. There has been widespread support for their advance simply because of the stability and end to insecurity that they promised. The warlords had had their chance. Even when they finally agreed a government, they were incapable of agreeing on its establishment in Somalia itself; so Somalis were treated to the ridiculous spectacle of a government that could only meet safely on Kenyan soil.

Sure I agree. Islamic totalitarianism does provide stability and security. It's called peace by submission.

And sometimes submission by spectacle...case in point.

Has anyone asked whose side Keith Ellison and his Somali constituents in MN are on?

It's War or Annihilation

It appears that we are closer to war between Somalia and Ethiopia.

There are reports of Arabs arriving in ships to support the Islamic opposition in Somalia. Lacking the resolve and the initiative to settle the Middle East conflict, how will the "World Community" handle this one? Talk, talk, and more talk. To everyone who thinks the US should send forces to Africa to prevent the upcoming slaughter I ask how we can do that? I do wish we could send troops there. The problem is logistical. With troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and still in Bosnia how do we send a reasonable sized and affective force to Africa?

The easiest way to get the Islamic tide to recede in Africa is to start killing them in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seeing as the battles in Africa are mostly between Arabs and Africans, we need to find a way to get the Arabs out of Africa. Killing Arab terrorists is the easiest way to do this.To prevent a full fledged World War the Middle Eastern region needs to truly feel the affect of American Might. By conducting a war as it should be, the Arabs would have to return to defend their own homes. This would give Africa a reprieve and potentially eliminate the major terrorist threat.

The most pathetic idea that the West constantly puts to the forefront to avoid war is human rights violations. Here's my question, isn't living and dying under oppression a human rights violation? Isn't government sponsored genocide a human right violation? Isn't the ritual practice of rape, torture, and murder a human rights violation? Isn't raising children to be murderers and homicide bombers a human rights violation? It's time to drop the hypocrisy. Cowardice is a human rights violation. Being unwilling to do what is necessary, whether you like it or not, is a human rights violation. Putting your childrens life at risk to defend a terrorist is a human rights violation. Telling me not to defend my family is a human rights violation.Enough is enough. It's time to start fighting.

All this talk about a draft doesn't really bother me. Although I never liked the bureaucracy of the military I did enjoy my time in the Navy. I felt like I was contibuting something. I have written about the necessity of setting up a group of irregulars. I did so in hope that somebody with the means to would take me up on that. So far, nothing. If the "World Community" will do nothing then it is up to the individual.Evil is on the march. Good men and women are dying while everyone watches on TV. The US government appears to be ceding it's power to weak and whiny nations. This doesn't bode well for the world's future.

The United States is in this position at this point of time because we are expected to wield the power we have attained for good. Not wielding this power is the equivalent to fleeing from evil. This is cowardice. Cowardice is the most evil of all vices.

Somali Islamists urge Muslims worldwide to join jihad

Somalia: a young group of Keith Ellison supporters
A call to Keith Ellison's crowd...Somali go guri:

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali Islamists urged foreign Muslim fighters on Saturday to join their "holy war" against Ethiopia after days of heavy fighting between Islamist and pro-government troops.

The Islamists and pro-Somali government fighters have been firing artillery and rockets at each other across frontlines since Tuesday, killing dozens and wounding hundreds. Though residents reported a lull in fighting early on Saturday.

"Our country is open to Muslims worldwide. Let them fight in Somalia and wage jihad, and God willing, attack Addis Ababa," said Islamisti defense chief Yusuf Mohamed Siad "Inda'ade", a hard-liner known for his belligerent rhetoric.

"We told the world to stop this problem. We told them to do something before it becomes a blazing fire that would engulf the region," he told reporters in the Islamist stronghold of Mogadishu.

The most sustained fighting to date between the two sides has heightened fears of a major regional war that would suck in Horn of Africa rivals Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Diplomats fear the Somali conflict could also trigger suicide bombings in east Africa.

"... a major regional war that would suck..."

Yes it would! But the Somali Islamists seem to thrive on declaring war for Allah. What makes this interesting is that there are a large number of Somali Muslims in the US. I know first hand of the ones in Minneapolis, as does Keith Ellison. They elected him.

This might be good for Minneapolis if the herd of Somalis suddenly booked flights. I wouldn't want to be on one of them but can you imagine?! Then our friend John will be, in a small way, vindicated.

'Makings of bomb' found in airport car

Minneapolis seems to be a real "Mecca" for suspicious Islamic goings on. First somaili taxi drivers impose Sharia Law and elect themselves a congressman, then 6 imams eerily praise Allah publicly before a flight, and now bomb parts are found in an airport rent-a-car.

A bomb-like device was found in a rental car Sunday morning at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, shutting down part of the Lindbergh terminal parking ramps for about two hours.

The Bloomington police bomb squad examined and blew up the device. FBI agents interviewed the man who rented the car after he arrived on the West Coast on Sunday. He said that the device was not a bomb and that he didn't mean to leave it behind, said Pat Hogan, airport spokesman.

Oh it wasn't a bomb and you didn't mean to leave it behind? Oh...alright then...our bad.

Can anyone say taqiyya?

Glenn Beck speaks for American's...

"Go There!"

...where Democrats don't.

Ok...We've been getting a lot of hits from search engines looking for the interview with Glenn Beck and Keith Ellison. Unfortunately the only clip available (click on pic) is the 1:58 minute clip shown on Media Matters and Youtube.

What strikes me as funny about all this is that Ellison, having been warned that the question would be politically incorrect, said "Go There". Even after he agreed to the question the left is in an uproar over Glenn Beck's supposed "insensitivity". The clip does not show how the interview ends.

Let me say "I went there" long before this interview, and I think many other Americans have also--especially those on the right. The left seems to be casting off the threat of Radical Islam in general AND ignoring Ellison's ties to the Nation Of Islam and the Minnesota taxi driving Somalians.

BTW why is Media Matters monitoring Beck so closely? I think they think they are right about him...just like the left was so sure about Ned Lamont.

The Sheep Have Spoken

Keith Ellison
Democrats take the House and the Senate...much to the satisfaction of Jihad Jaara.

Exit polls of 8,344 voters across the country, conducted by the Associated Press and the TV networks, showed that a strong 60 percent majority of them opposed the war in Iraq and only one-third said they thought, as Mr. Bush and Republican candidates argued, that the war was necessary to protect U.S. security in the global war against terrorism.

"Far more voters said national issues mattered more than local issues in their House vote, but there was no difference in how those groups voted in House contests," the AP reported last night.

The Democratic Party's strong performance at the polls also was seen as a vindication of the 50-state strategy that Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean implemented two years ago when he put paid party organizers in all the states in an effort to rebuild the party's long-term infrastructure.
"That's paid off for us and for the rest of the party," said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Refern.

In the 2002 midterm election and 2004 presidential race, Democrats were outmaneuvered by the Republicans' superior voter turnout operation and by the public's perception that Democrats could not be trusted with the nation's national security.

This time, Democrats called for increased spending on the military and poured more money into their voter turnout operation, putting nearly $50 million into their ground game to identify voters and get them to the polls.

Democratic Party officials said it was the first time in years that they were able to compete with Republicans voter-for-voter.

All is not lost...but we're getting there.

Well... American voters wanted change...my prediction is that we will see it. We will see a change in the amount of fighting in the legislature. We will see a change in the ability to identify and protect ourselves against terrorists. And personally I will be seeing a change in how I proceed into my local Starbucks.

Thanks to an Election Night Jihad we now have our first Muslim Congressman. Difster says, "We're in a lot of trouble". I think it is a shame...not that a Muslim is in Congress so much as that Keith Ellison converted to Islam from Roman Catholicism. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Voters elected a black Democrat as the first Muslim in Congress on Tuesday after a race in which he advocated quick U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and made little mention of his faith.

Keith Ellison, a 43-year-old lawyer and state representative, defeated two rivals, television networks said, to succeed retiring Democrat Martin Sabo in a seat that has been held by Democrats since 1963.

Ellison, who converted to Islam as a 19-year-old college student in his native Detroit, won with the help of Muslims among a coalition of liberal, anti-war voters.

He advocates an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq along with strongly liberal views. While Ellison did not often speak of his faith during the campaign, awareness of his candidacy drew interest from Muslims well beyond the district centered in Minneapolis.

A significant community of Somali immigrants in Minneapolis cast their first votes for him in the crowded September primary. Ellison also was the surprise choice of party regulars.

Yes these are the same Somoli immigrants who drive taxis, refuse rides to nightclubbers and fund Al-Qaeda.

Yes, we're in alot of trouble now.

When In Rome do as Muslims Do

muslim cab drivers refuse to pick up drunk ridersUSA Today - Airport Check-in: Fare refusals in Minnesota, Excerpt:
9/18/2006 Minneapolis-St. Paul is concerned that its taxi service is deteriorating. Citing their religious beliefs, some Muslim taxi drivers from Somalia are refusing to transport customers carrying or suspected of carrying alcohol. It started with one driver a few years ago, but the average number of fare refusals has grown to about three a day, says airport spokesman Patrick Hogan. "Travelers often feel surprised and insulted," he says. "Sometimes, several drivers in a row refuse carriage."

Taxi drivers and officials from the airport, taxi companies and the Muslim American Society are discussing how to address the issue. Partly out of concern that taxi drivers might be citing religion to avoid short-distance fares, the airport is now forcing drivers who refuse a fare to go to the end of the line for waiting taxis. It is not a popular decision among drivers, Hogan says.

The airport is expected to propose today that drivers who wish to avoid alcohol-toting passengers change the light on their car roofs, possibly to a different color. Hogan says the move will help let airport employees and customers know which taxis serve alcohol-carrying passengers. Drivers refusing a fare won't have to go to the end of the line. "Airport authorities are not in the business of interpreting sacred texts or dictating anyone's religious choices. ... Our goal is simply to ensure travelers at (the airport) are well served."

Today it is alcohol, soon it will be women who do not wear a veil, tomorrow it will be Jews. That dhimwitted line about "Airport authorities are not in the business of interpreting sacred texts" is beyond dhimented. How does it "ensure travelers at the airport are well served" when it is obvious that those travelers are not served at all. What is the poor traveler to do if the entire line of cabs is filled with Muslim? Rent a car? But shouldn't we be concerned that drunks will be driving instead of being driven?

Pope Gives Blessing With No Apology

Pope Benedict XVI gave his Angelus blessing at St. Peter's Square this morning, saying:

"I would only wish to add that I am really deeply regretful of the reactions which have been provoked by a brief speech I made… which was deemed offensive to the Islamic people," he told crowds gathered in a rainy St Peter's Square.

"I hope that this will suffice to placate the souls and to make clear the true significance of my speech which in its whole sense was an invitation to a frank and sincere dialogue with great mutual respect," he said.

I don't know if even offering his head would placate some souls. Mutual respect is a concept that I don't believe is something to hold your breath for. But it is good that the jihadis are not the only ones giving out invitations these days. For the Pope, as the Vicar Of Christ, it certainly is his job. It is not at all unreasonable for a religious leader to compare and contrast his faith to others. Jesus' words of "who do you think I am?' really depend on who's you are asking. Jihadi response to that question is more often than not one of loosing one's head-- your's... not theirs. "Convert or Else" is clearly a Muslim concept regarded more highly than "mutual respect and frank dialogue".

Reactions from the Mullah crowd:

Threats: One Iraqi insurgent group, the Mujahedeen Army, also threatened a suicide bomb attack against the Vatican in a statement posted on a website frequently used by militant movements, although the authenticity of the warning could not be immediately verified.

Uncooperation: Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan has also cast doubt over whether the Pope's planned trip to the predominantly Muslim country, in November, will now take place. Asked whether the visit was still likely to go ahead, Mr Erdogan, who described the pontiff's comments as "ugly and unfortunate", replied: "I wouldn't know."

Hoohawing: Yesterday's expression of regret by the Vatican over the Pope's remarks was better received by British Muslims.

"It's certainly a welcome step that the Pope recognises the hurt that his speech caused," said Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, general secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain.

"He quoted the words of the emperor who made very derogatory remarks about the Prophet, and his inclusion has caused enormous hurt," he added.

Ok... that is to say nothing about the derogatory remarks and enormous hurt inflicted on the Christian and Western Martyrs by Islam over the centuries by people that want to throw back to the 10th Century. The Pope gave them a 14th Century example of what they are doing right now!

I think so far the best and briefest response to the "offending speech" is this short comment about what the Pope meant by French religious historian Odon Vallet :

"Benedict XVI says that the Christian revelation is not contrary to reason... while for Islam, God's revelation is superior to reason and so can do without it, which would explain the part of passions and violence in Islam," Vallet said.

"I do think that is done on purpose: this is someone who has always voiced his thoughts, sometimes brutally. He is no diplomat," Vallet said.

Benedict XVI is just being himself and saying what he thinks about the fundamentals of radical Islam. That's an example we should all follow.

***UPDATED*** Nuns Death Possibly Linked To Pope's Comments.

Ya Think?

Somalian Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin had commanded Friday, after Muslim prayers: "Whoever offends our Prophet Mohammed should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim!"

I guess someone took him at his word.

Gunmen killed Sister Leonella (right) and her bodyguard Sunday at the entrance of the hospital where she worked in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Eternal rest grant to her, 0 Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.
