U.S. strike kills Afghan Taliban leader

I'm DEAD.

Gone Daddy Gone!

KABUL, Afghanistan - A top Taliban military commander described as a close associate of Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar was killed in an airstrike this week close to the border with Pakistan, the U.S. military said Saturday. A Taliban spokesman denied the claim.

As usual...

Of Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani, who was killed Tuesday by a U.S. airstrike, U.S. military spokesman Col. Tom Collins noted Osmani's death as a "big loss" for the ultraconservative militia.

"There's no doubt that it will have an immediate impact on their ability to conduct attacks," Collins said. "But the Taliban is fairly adaptive. They'll put somebody else in that position and we'll go after that person, too."

And that is how the work gets done.

Islamic Law - Police Raid Beauty Parlor

-men arrested for receiving haircuts from women:

BANDA ACEH, Aceh province (AP): Enforcing Islamic law, Indonesian police raided a dozen beauty parlors and arrested 13 beauticians for failing to wear Islamic attire and two male customers for having their hair cut by women, police said Thursday.

Police chief Bahagia Hadi said raids on beauty parlors would be intensified in the Indonesian province of Aceh because such places were often found to be used for prostitution.

Bahagia said police found used condoms during a raid Wednesday in one of the parlors in the capital of the tsunami-ravaged province, Banda Aceh.

The 13 female parlor workers were arrested because they wore tight shirts and jeans but no head scarves, while the two men should have known that Islamic Sharia law states they can only receive haircuts from male hairdressers, he said.

All were released after being admonished by the Sharia Agency,he said.

This is not the first time someone has faced jail time for breaking the "haircut" laws of Islam.

KABUL, Afghanistan, May 22, 2001 - At the Ahmed brothers’ barbershop in the capital city of the world’s most radical Islamic regime, haircuts can be dangerous. The wildly popular Leonardo di Caprio cut, dubbed the “Titanic” by locals, has teen-age boys lining up every day, eager to be transformed into American heartthrobs. But the “Titanic” is a serious offense in the eyes of the Taliban, the staunchly anti-Western Islamic militants who rule this nation. Said Ahmed, the older of the two barbers, has been imprisoned twice for his artistry. But business is business — despite the Taliban.

...the Taliban imposed an unbending brand of Islam on a war-torn nation ruined by civil war and the Soviet invasion more than two decades ago. In today’s Afghanistan, thieves routinely have their limbs amputated. Women, banned from pursuing most careers, are executed for adultery. Pop music and dancing are banned, along with television and videos.

Even kite flying and laughing in public are censured.

In "lesser" important news : Supreme Court overturns terror conviction against Ba'asyir:

JAKARTA (Antara): Supreme Court Thursday overturned a conviction against cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir on conspiracy charges in the 2002 Bali bombings.

The cleric has maintained his innocence and denounced the allegations as a plot by Washington to silence his campaign for Islamic law.

Hurray for the Abu campaign! Well, that's enough to make me Islamophobic. And people like this want to pray at our airports? What on earth can they be praying for?

Taliban: We Defeated the Republicans

hekmatapThe democrats are playing power games and patting themselves on the back while our enemies are viewing their lack of understanding as a defeat against America. Right Voices takes note that the Taliban are claiming victory over the Republicans.

Sniper One comments:

It has to make you feel all warm and happy inside when the enemies of America are bragging they are pleased with the outcome of our mid-term election. It would seem that these people are dancing in the streets and are about to jizz their shorts in honor of Speaker Botox.

From Yahoo News

In a rare video message, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a renegade Afghan warlord allied with the Taliban, claimed that American troops will be forced out of
Afghanistan like the Soviets before them.

The leader of the Hezb-e-Islami militant group also touted the Republican Party defeat in last month's midterm elections as a victory for militants fighting in Afghanistan and
Iraq.

"It seems that every bullet that mujahedeen had fired toward the Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan has turned into a vote against Bush," Hekmatyar said in the undated video statement received by AP Television News in Pakistan.

"There is no doubt that is a great victory and success for Afghan and Iraqi mujahedeen," he said. "I am convinced that the fate Soviet Union faced is awaiting America as well."

He goes on to say:

"Very soon we will see that, God willing, American troops will leave Afghanistan and Iraq with their heads bowed down," Hekmatyar said in the video.

Hekmatyar was a leader of the mujahedeen that fought the Soviet occupation of the 1980s and was briefly Afghan prime minister during the civil war of the early 1990s that cost tens of thousands of lives.

It's been a while since we've seen this much violence and aggression out of Afghanistan. Things there had gotten more stable.

We've taken some giant steps backward and I'm very concerned about what will have to happen for us to regain the respect of the world. Meanwhile, the democrats are celebrating like a bunch of adolescents and remaining blissfully ignorant.

Blair: Moderate policies defeat terror

Allah Akbar, bloody bugger!
Blair: Let's change our strategy--and blame Israel too...

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — British Prime Minister Tony Blair acknowledged Sunday the West had changed strategy in the fight against terrorism, telling Pakistan's president that brokering a broad Mideast peace deal was now as crucial as using force to battle militants.

Pakistani leader Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who switched his country's support from the Taliban in Afghanistan to the U.S. following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, said "the knot of terrorism will be untied through first resolving the Palestinian dispute."

Musharraf also acknowledged that his government's efforts to cut off support for the Taliban in northwestern Pakistan had not achieved "100 percent success." Pakistan has come under increasing pressure to crack down on Taliban and al-Qaida militants operating along its border with Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden believed to be hiding.

"The Taliban problem is an Afghan problem ... being supported by elements from this side," Musharraf said. "We need to put our house in order on our side."

"We begin to win when we start fighting properly and I think we are now fighting properly _ but we have got to do more," Blair said after the talks with Musharraf in the eastern city of Lahore. "Where there are people standing up for a different way forward, we have to back them."

Blair said bringing peace to Israel and the Palestinian territories would help. "This global extremism is an ideology that exploits grievances. So what we have to do is at the same time as we are taking on the ideology, we have to take away those elements of grievance," he said.

"This took a generation to grow and it will take a generation to defeat," he said after signing an agreement announced Saturday to double to $910 million package of aid to fund moderate Islamic schools and other projects in Pakistan.

Help me out here...I fail to see how the "Taliban" problem and the "Palestinian" problem are linked. How is blaming Israel and throwing money at the Pakistani Muslims going to change the twisted ideology which already exists worldwide? If anything at all, they have just pulled another taqiyya over the infidel's eyes again.

**Update** --removing the elements of grievence--"Maybe Israel should just GO AWAY..." says Mohammed of the Islamic Thinkers Society.

Would resolving Palestinian grievances resolve Global Terrorism? See the Yahoo Answers...

Pakistan Destroys al-Qaida Site

Pakistan Army takes out an al-Qaida training center:

KHAR, Pakistan - Pakistani troops backed by missile-firing helicopters destroyed a purported al-Qaida-linked training facility in a northwestern tribal area near the Afghan border Monday, officials said. At least 20 people were killed.

The pre-dawn attack targeted a religious school, or madrassa, holding 70-80 militants in Chingai village near Khar, the main town in the Bajur tribal district, said army spokesman Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan.

The bodies of 20 tribesmen killed in the attack were lined in a field near the madrassa before an impromptu burial attended by thousands of locals, according to an Associated Press reporter at the scene.

Sultan said the attack targeted terrorists training at the al-Qaida-linked facility, but local leaders said those killed in the raid were innocent civilians.

Among the dead was Liaquat Hussain, a local Islamic cleric who ran the madrassa and is believed to have been sheltering al-Qaida militants, locals said. Several of his aides also died, they said.

The attack came two days after 5,000 pro-Taliban tribesmen held an anti-American rally in the Bajur area near Damadola, a village close to the site of an alleged U.S. missile attack that killed several al-Qaida members and civilians in January.

"We received confirmed intelligence reports that 70-80 militants were hiding in a madrassa used as a terrorist-training facility, which was destroyed by an army strike, led by helicopters," Sultan said.

Soldiers on the ground were counting the dead, Sultan said. He was unable to provide a preliminary estimate of the casualty count, but said that "many" militants had been killed.

Pakistan shows they are on the right side. However with all the tribal ties and the usual "religious sensitivities" I'm surprised this mission even went off. As for the "civilians' involved. Do the math! 20 dead, 20 tribesmen in a terrorist training facility. What we know is these people have no problem hiding among women and children. The probablility is that the 20 were tribesmen by day...terrorists by night.

**UPDATE**-HotAir.com is reporting that Al-Qaida top bananastan, Zawahiri was the target. Faqir Mohammed, an al-Zawahiri deputy was on the scene before or during the raid. I wonder if he was trying to pass as an innocent tribesman too.

Taliban official warns of Ramadan attack on US

News from Afghanistan-

The head of the Islamabad-based Al-Quds Media Centre has received an audio message from a senior Taliban leader in which he asked Muslims living in the US to leave the country as soon as possible "because God's punishment would fall on America in the month of Ramadan."

Jamal Ismail, a senior journalist who once worked for Al-Jazeera television channel and is now head of the Al-Quds Media Centre, told The News that he received a phone call Thursday from Taliban leader Mulla Masoom Afghani. "Afghani said he was speaking from somewhere in Kandahar province. He read out the message in Arabic, which I recorded. In it he advised Muslim residents of America to get out to escape harm because the US could face big attacks in the month of Ramadan," said Jamal Ismail.

According to Jamal Ismail, it was the first time that Afghani, who is head of the pro-Taliban clerics' consultative council and the former ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan, had conveyed such a message. "Afghani didn't say that it was a dream. It appeared that he strongly believed that America was going to face punishment at the hands of Allah," he explained.

A Fatwa isssued from a cave, no doubt. Is this referring to the American Hiroshima again? More rhetoric or the real deal? This is one case where I don't want to see a little less talk and a lot more action.

It is interesting that this is not only the month of Ramadan but also of halloween. And the Taliban, like Allah and his prophet Mo, are just another boogeyman, as far as I am concerned.

CIA paid Pakistan millions for terrorists

Furious over being bullied by the US, Musharraf tells all in book. [I smell a NYT bestseller already!]

PRESIDENT Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan says that the CIA has secretly paid his government millions of dollars for handing over hundreds of al-Qaeda suspects to America.

The US government has strict rules banning such reward payments to foreign powers involved in the war on terror.

Musharraf does not say how much the CIA gave in return for the 369 al-Qaeda figures that he ordered should be passed to the US.

The US Department of Justice said: “We didn’t know about this. It should not happen. These bounty payments are for private individuals who help to trace terrorists on the FBI’s most wanted list, not foreign governments.”

The revelation comes from Musharraf’s memoir, In the Line of Fire, which began serialisation in The Times yesterday and will further embarrass the White House at a time when relations between the US and Pakistan are already strained.

At home, his political opponents say that the book is Musharraf’s blatant attempt to bolster his own reputation before elections in October 2007 as he has signalled his determination to have another five years in power.

They are also questioning what he intends to do with the reported six-figure sum he was paid by the publishers for his book. More revelations here...

His book also says he resents having an "Islamic Bomb"...

Touchy Touchy! I'm not convinced about whose side this guy is on. I DO KNOW he is CYA'ing with this book and by making deals with the Taliban. He seems a tad too shifty to me. I'll be keeping a close eye on this "ally".

Tougher Stance At Guantanamo

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - The military is toughening a new jailhouse for suspected al-Qaida and Taliban militants to protect guards after a spate of attacks and evidence that detainees have organized themselves into groups to mount uprisings, officials said.

The hardening comes as U.N. human rights investigators are calling for closing the entire detention center on this remote U.S. base. But with the war against terror groups dragging on, commanders say they have no choice in dealing with men deemed enemy combatants.

Events in recent months have made Guantanamo officials extremely wary:

• Detainees lured guards into a cell in the prison's Camp 4 by staging a suicide attempt in May, then attacked with fan blades and broken pieces of fluorescent light fixtures, the military says. Defense attorneys say the clash was sparked when guards tried to search prisoners' Qurans.

• On June 10, three detainees in Camp 1 committed suicide. Navy Rear Adm. Harry Harris, commander of the jail, described it as a coordinated protest action — "not an act of desperation but an act of asymmetric warfare against us."

• Guards recently discovered detainees in Camp 1 were dismantling faucets on sinks, removing long, sharp springs and reinforcing them into stabbing weapons, Army Lt. Col. Mike Nicolucci said. Camp 1 has been emptied of detainees while new faucets are installed, with inaccessible springs.

From July 2005 through August, the military recorded 432 assaults by detainees using "cocktails" of bodily excretions thrown at guards, 227 physical assaults and 99 instances of inciting or participating in disturbances or riots.

"What we have come to assess is these detainees — these terrorists — are still fighting a battle," said Army Brig. Gen. Edward A. Leacock, deputy commander of the detention operation. "They're not on the battlefield but ... they're still continuing to fight to this day."

Leacock said hard-core al-Qaida and Taliban detainees have established a hierarchy of "military guys, religious guys ... the muscle guys, and they all have a role inside the camps."

The goal is to coordinate attacks on guards or organize disturbances, Leacock said in an interview with journalists from The Associated Press and three foreign news organizations Wednesday.

"There are people in the camps — we have identified them — that continue to try to foment problems within the camp," Leacock said. "Our effort is trying to preclude them from developing the plans that will cause ... any kind of uprising."

Now, someone tell me who is torturing who? How many times do you think one of our soldiers would get away with this stuff in their custody? This is why our soldiers are the world's finest...even if the whole world shows contempt for them.
